  1. a bunch of Pivot Demos incoming.
  2. I feel like ninja is still 90% there. it is just broken in a few places. the hope is that the paved path legitimizes the area, and eventually we'll get even more trails...
  3. here's a picture: https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=122168545730322839&set=pcb.1597442047531879
  4. There's a tree down about 100 feet before 3rd creek crossing.
  5. Pivot Demo at RPR Sat Nov 16 https://www.pivotcycles.com/en/event/austin-bike-farm-mtb-demo/
  6. these are 3 bike hitch racks? its hard to tell from the jumble.
  7. some updates on construction dates for walnut creek north: https://www.kxan.com/news/local/austin/austin-advancing-work-on-30-mile-big-loop-trail-system/?utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=socialflow&utm_medium=referral&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR1Nfwp0bANVf_9UOrJz4hLCoALgNCtJUoJenpqmf0EOccaFxwLQbeDakns_aem_BrgUbCPh_Uw0TMBaoMYC4w Sections 2B and 3A are both funded and are at the 60% design completion stage, with 100% design work completion expected in the late springtime. Construction is then projected to begin next summer, officials said. Section 3B is currently unfunded and in the feasibility review stage. Early stage design work is expected to kick off this winter, with bike lane improvements proposed on Shropshire Boulevard and Braker Lane to link up with the 3A north segment through the north end of the 3C section.
  8. did you figure it out? navigating is not that straightforward out there, but could share some Strava from past rides.
  9. Pavement Trail to Manor officially open yesterday. What i found interesting from the facebook post was this Travis County Greenways map. Have yall seen these plans before? is there a better copy of this map somewhere?
  10. i've really enjoyed following Cody's Strava's posts and training. Hoping he crushes the race.
  11. i run across these surveys pretty often. This is thread for that. Please help give your opinion. Cameron/Dessau Rd between 51st Street and Parmer Lane is one of Austin’s most dangerous roadways. Between 2019 and 2023, there were almost 2,400 crashes, 12 deaths, and 77 serious injuries on this stretch. This crisis needs addressing now. Thankfully, the City of Austin finally plans to take action with 6.5 miles of protected bike lanes, new pedestrian crossings, better street lighting, and other improvements. This is one of Austin’s boldest ever bicycle/pedestrian/safe streets projects. https://safestreetsaustin.us19.list-manage.com/track/click?u=fe4543fca94d67abe87d35d11&id=73ba89d0fa&e=45c8e9026a
  12. i had forgotten about Castle Hill Cycles. Still some pretty great reviews on Yelp for reminiscing: https://www.yelp.com/biz/castle-hill-cycles-austin
  13. Thanks for sharing. This is a total bummer. and every time i think about buying an Zero motorcycle recently, i have to reel it back in because they really are too dangerous... but so much fun. I didn't know Gordon, but he sounds awesome. I was at UT at the same time. didn't even know they had a cycling team. i was just getting into recreational biking at the time. Looks like there's a go fund me for those feeling generous: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-gordons-accident-recovery?lang=en_US&utm_campaign=fp_sharesheet&utm_medium=customer&utm_source=facebook
  14. i didn;t remember it from the picture. but pretty sure i know the rock from the location. i quite enjoyed the challenge of going 'up' it with my typical route. how does a rock that big disappear?
  15. I had ridden the original Turbo Levo, and when we recently rented some ebikes in Bentonville, i was surprised with how much power they provide. It felt like you're not really pedaling with power as much as just controlling the speed with your cadence. It feels like a different sport really. I much prefer acoustic bikes for riding single track. Where ebikes seem to shine are for places where you have to run laps like Coler and Kanuga, where the uphill isn't interesting.
  16. I always wear eye protection, but mostly due to branches/leaves on regular trails. for downhill, its more just about dust if you are following someone. I think the standard fare is a full-face with goggles and knee-pads. And i personally love wearing gloves, because pretty much every time i crash, my hands seem to hit the ground. if you want more, there is back/chest armor and neck guards. Its really just whatever makes you feel comfortable going fast.
  17. I checked it out yesterday. Pretty great for what it is ~ 9 mile xc race loop with basically zero rocks. You can get super fast on some of the straightaways. lots of nice turns. And plenty of challenging berms. On the back side there is a section built by KOM with some pretty cool features, but i found it hard to carry speed through. i would need to session it before i really trusted those berms. This seems to be Todd Eric's baby for now. He said its his buddy's property. It is not generally open. He's been opening it up Saturday morning's when Todd can make it out there to supervise. They need to get more tires on the dirt to help bed in the trails. There is a group on the facebook that seems to have the most up-to-date info.
  18. this seems awesome. Gonna try to make it if i'm in town. Thanks for sharing.
  19. i was being cheap, when i finally swapped my rear, and i was like: woah, so much more confidence braking on the downhills. i realized i had waited too long.
  20. I rode this morning, and BMX loop was clear of any camps.
  21. It looks like your bike's about to go for a swim.
  22. do yall know what year they closed Forrest Ridge for the warbler? (never got to ride there, but live in the area and hike it often)
  23. BCGB 1998, brought my sister's giant iguana from home to ride. Had a blast. That bike lasted about 5 rides on the greenbelt. as soon as i got out of school and had a job, I bought my Gary Fisher Sugar. Full Sus ever since.
