FREERIDE512 @ Christ Church Cedar Park
circuitbreaker replied to El Gringo's topic in Mountain Biking Discussion
is the skinny finished? i haven't been out there recently. -
unfortunately, if you got a bite in your bead area, you were running too low pressure, even with the ARD. Reminder that these systems are not full proof. i have broken a carbon rim with cushcore installed. I have heard from antonio that you can suture tears. I think that would be the best solution in that area, but have never tried it. suture kits are on amazon.

Apparently Pace Bend and Reimers were closed today due to over crowding.:

i think compressing for jumps can be a pretty slight movement. probably hard to see at speed. on drops, you don't need to jump if you have the right speed, you just ride off the edge and push the bike out in front of you.

Recommendations for a Hand Pump
circuitbreaker replied to circuitbreaker's topic in Mountain Biking Discussion
Yep, that looks similar to mine. I think it probably actually still works, but i lost the spinny cap to hold the valve engagement pieces in. And mine is shaped a bit like a banana, because i've landed on my back a few times. right now the topeak mini morph is at the top of my list. thanks for all the recommendations. -
Commuter tires 29" need recommendations

do you think you'll have any issue running the big ben's tubeless? i've never tried running random commuter tires tubeless. -
Recommendations for a Hand Pump
circuitbreaker replied to circuitbreaker's topic in Mountain Biking Discussion
Thanks for the offer, but i think i'd rather just buy the right one new. (and hope it lasts another 20 years) Yeah, i've never used CO2, because i always ride with a pack and my pump has always worked. i've ridden with other people who have used CO2 on rides, and i've seen kind of mixed results, but that may have been user error. -
So my 20 year old blackburn hand pump finally died. Wanted to see if yall have any recommendations on a good hand pump. The pump will live in my full sized hydration pack, so size is not an issue. Primary concern is just a good pump that works well when i need it to. Also, i ride rode on occasion, so it would be nice if it cold handle higher pressures. Weight would be a secondary concern.

Texas State Parks will begin reopening for day-use only April 20 Due to limited staffing, weather conditions and continuing construction projects, some state parks will not be open at the current time. Park visitors should check the Texas State Parks Alert Map regularly for the latest information about the status of individual parks. Operational changes still in effect at parks include the suspension of all transactions at parks, equipment rentals and in-person interpretive programs. All group-use facilities, visitor and nature centers, headquarters and other enclosed spaces where people congregate will also remain closed. https://tpwd.texas.gov/?utm_campaign=spupdates&utm_medium=email&utm_source=4.20.2020

New bike: What travel do you use for Austin trails?
circuitbreaker replied to quixoft's topic in Mountain Biking Discussion
In general, the answer to this question: What travel do you use for Austin trails? i think the answer is 130 is plenty. But if you want a smash, get a smash, they are awesome bikes. and the weight penalty is minimal. If you're into long rides, and pedaling more, than TrailPistol might be a better fit. Either way you're getting an awesome bike, that will be able to handle more than you can throw at it. -
Just had another great ride on Thumper. Thanks for clearing out those trees! I feel like its running quite well. There are still two trees down after the second creek crossing. But they aren't really a big deal.

Can i ask what EBD stands for? For anyone looking for a map: https://caltopo.com/m/6DN1

check out woom an Austin company: https://us.woombikes.com/ there are two on CL right now. a 14" and a 16" all the kids bikes we've owned have been from craigslist, generally i buy/sell them for the same price. We have owned trek and specialized hotrock. Some neighbors have woom bikes, and they seem great.

I typically park at Cedar Breaks. there are a bunch of parking spots that are outside of the actual entrance gate.

As far as i can tell, the trail is open? All the individual parks are closed, but you should still be able to park by the damn. Maybe try and call. Please be aware, facilities at this location are closed. This includes facilities like visitor centers, entrance kiosks, museums and more. Keep in mind, trails and roads may be open for use. Local managers are committed to the health and safety of recreational visitors and our staff. We are following the guidelines from our agency and the CDC regarding COVID-19, closely monitoring the situation and responding to current conditions. Please contact the local facility before your visit for details and continue to monitor this page for status updates.

Looks like RPR is also open this weekend.

People definitely ride thumper. but i would say its the least popular trail around here, which is a bit of a shame, because the location is great and so is the terrain. but it is an intimidating and confusing trail. My understanding is that the original trail builders didn't intend for this to be a heavy traffic trail?
-
my memory has faded over the weekend, but pretty sure two trees were down on the early portion of the trail. i think one before 'the summit' and one when you're headed back from that direction. and then there is a giant tree split in three at the very end (bottom of the climb out), that has been there for a while.

is the crack on a weld or flat part? or is it around the pivot points? what year/size? have you looked at used frames on pink bike?

Bobo nailed this one:

Rode Thumper today, 4/2. Not alot of traffic as usual. There are 5 large trees down. One is on one of the faster gullies. It is on the uphill side, so its easy to brake in time, but it did catch me off guard. Besides that trail was great, not as many leaves as i was expecting.
