  1. Brand-X Ascend II dropper. Externally actuated-, so you don't have to have "stealth" routing on your frame. 400mm long, 125 mm travel, 31.6 mm diameter. $115 I bought it this summer, used it 4-5 times and meh, no dropper magic for me. It's good as new.
  2. Pick your fave. Or pontificate on why you have six bicycles below. What is the specific purpose of each bike? Support your claims with peer-reviewed data.
  3. Curious just because it's interesting, but also because my bike could take 29+ tire. It would be a very expressive experiment though. Maybe I need to borrow some wheels like that and take em for a spin sometime. (142/100 axles, in case anyone has such a thing around.)
  4. Curious as to what current trends are amount Austin riders. I know there are horses for courses and all, but what's the most useful, practical, fun setup you've tried? Do you see a trend swinging one way or another?
  5. Just be sure to keep the original paint. Seriously though, I would stick with wood.
  6. I park two cars in my garage. How novel! That leave little room for tools and bike stuff. All that might have to move indoors because I am not leaving my car out for the vandals and theives.
  7. Shimano chain + KMC link = win/win. I never liked the way SRAM chains shifted, especially on Shimano drivetrains. I think Performance had a KMC 10 speed chain but it was 3x the cost of the Shimano chain I would have purchased if they had it.
  8. Jerks have been joyriding these things all over the places they should not be with virtually no enforcement for months. Now at least they are going to monitor it.
  9. Stopped in the other day and they had some great deals on bikes. I don't want any of those bikes. I just need a new 10-speed Shimano chain, which they did not have.
  10. I want one after Colin Furze modifies it.
  11. I have an Osprey 10 as well, had it for at least six years. zero complaints. when I worked at REI, I was always impressed with how light and comfy Osprey backpacking equipment is. we sold a lot of their backpacks after fitting and loading one up with beanbags to simulate gear weight.
  12. coming soon: assholes skidding corners all over Walnut:
  13. all this rain we've had really bummed me out. finally got a proper ride yesterday and after less than 90 minutes at Walnut OMG EVERYTHING HURTS! my back is pretty messed up, my ankle doesn't want to move, and my right hip makes me flop around like a drunk when I rise from a chair. good thing I am seeing the chiro this week, I have a few things to discuss. moral: if you don't ride for an extended amount of time, do SOMETHING. getting over a bout of laziness is not fun at all.
  14. I stopped by the north side Performance Bike the other day and they have quite a few good deals for Black Friday/ closeouts that are worth checking out. They are closing that store permanently as well. I was impressed with some of Marin's offerings.
  15. I might hit up Performance before they close their doors. Looking for medium shorts without pubes in them.
  16. I made a charger pump with an empty 2L bottle and a pair of old valves. Hella ghetto but it was basically free and it works.
  17. what did he do to his crotchal region. nevermind, don't wanna know.
  18. I switched to Orange Seal as well. so far, I am convinced it's better than the alternatives. I made home brew for a while and found that it was not worth the trouble in the end. buy a little valve core remover and a plastic syringe to inject more sealant in the tire from time to time. if you don't ride your bike for a while, at least roll the bike around or take a spin around the block once a week so the sealant does not settle in one spot.
  19. good riddance. I worked at one of their stores for a month. I hated myself until I left to work for a better shop. I worked at a store in another state. he had a two-month wait list to get simple repairs like flat tires done, but they would only put me on the schedule for 18 hours a week. we had to tell customers that we "didn't have enough staff" to get more done. the sales people were sizing bikes by 1970s methods, the mechanics were paid just a smidge over minimum wage. I watched a "mechanic" try to remove a square taper crank arm from a customer's bike using hammer until I stopped him and showed him how to use a crank puller. I was explicitly told to cut corners, never take the time to test ride bikes, and filled out work orders in pen on four-part forms with a full UPC digit code for each work item done on the bike.
  20. I asked Santa for a new fish tank. I need a bigger one.
  21. I just saw a note on Nextdoor from someone in the Oak Hill area who has to give up their 9yo female blue heeler. PM me if you want to contact them.
  22. I discovered Akrigg's videos a few years ago. He can do anything on ANY bicycle and does so. he makes it look easy, too.
  23. Doesn't this basically happen every fall? Are we not used to it by now?
