  1. ...or give you square tires for half your commute, or needing to have to plug-in your non-plugin car so as to have it not die at night! I have a friend that lives there. OTOH, people ice skate commute in Ottawa which is kind of cool.
  2. Seems similar to my experience for the Canadian GP one weekend and Jazz Fest the next weekend while the world cup was going on (must have been either 2002 or 2006). I loved it up there.
  3. This! My 2nd hand Knox came with a few dinged spokes, and a few that were not a match. I started breaking some spokes, the tensions were uneven. I replaced all the dinged spokes and all the non-matching spokes, tensioned it even and it's perfectly true. With aluminum, I find that once I'm having to replace spokes or true the wheel, the spoke tensions are going to be off for the rest of the life of the wheel. That means either loose spokes frequently, or broken spokes now and then in my experience. Sorry about your troubles Seth. Thanks for the warning on this company. I'm considering a new set of wheels for my SS and I've got Knox and Dirt Components on my list now.
  4. Did you get to ride MSA? What's the scene like for the race?
  5. No! Who else am I going to live vicariously through?
  6. BTW, that Mag21 had gone to a Kestrel CS-X, 1993 I think. I wish I'd asked for the original Kestrel EMS fork. That bike is still in service with my brother with an Easton CrMo rigid fork.
  7. If any of you restorers want a Mag21 let me know. I have the syringe and the original manual.
  8. There was a long thread on this. From what I can gather, there are 3 factions: 1) 5% bad spots is OK, ride through the middle so as to not widen the trail. 2) 5% bad spots is OK, get off your bike and walk around the mud. 3) 5% is not OK (seems to me like the majority of the trail builders fall into this category). Turn around at the mud. Even walking around it widens the trail and damages vegetation, riding through it deepens the rut (cxagent posted an excellent graphic on why this is a problem). I suppose there's probably a 4th faction: who cares, BRAP!
  9. Let me know what diameter you need. I have a long strip of it I had to buy for one use. I only needed 1-2" of the stuff.
  10. Just in time for it to get covered in yellow powder! https://theoatmeal.com/comics/tree_love
  11. You still do that? I've given up on this. Too many people look at me like I'm a murderer when I try to talk to them nicely about this or in other leash-only parks. +1 I always try to be extra nice to hikers/runners/pedestrians. I also ride alone a lot, but when I do ride with a group, I like the social aspect of it and talking here and there.
  12. Wow! That's very nice! I love the handlebars. What's the wheelbase on it? Looks like a really slack head tube angle plus lots of trail and pretty long chain stays. How does it ride?
  13. 2-2.25” in the area close to St. Ed’s park and Thumper
  14. Did you watch that 30 for 30? Everyone should.
  15. I've actually had a nerve test years ago and they found nothing. I've read nerve conduction tests are not necessarily that accurate so maybe that explains that. What local place do you guys recommend for getting checked out?
  16. I'm running second-hand Knox. The previous owner was about 170 and does all the drops jumps, etc.. I'm about 220 all geared up. I roll down stuff, huck off small stuff and bomb down St. Eds and frequently get rock strikes on the wheels (they have plenty of chips on the clearcoat). So far so good. They are definitely lighter and stiffer than what I could get something equivalent in aluminum.
  17. I rode in the 4C area yesterday. I paid very close attention to things that were noisier than my 240S hub, in no particular order: 911 GT2 RS with aftermarket exhaust (unmistakable sound) Mustang with aftermarket exhaust or cutout Sport bike with aftermarket exhaust or cutout Heavy transport truck's tires Jackhammer from nearby construction (super loud) Harley Davidson with aftermarket exhaust I ran into another rider out there, we were not aware of each other until we were 10 yards apart, meanwhile all through that valley the sounds of those loud vehicles and construction noise are abundant. I also live close to Old Spicewood Springs and Old Lampasas Trail, and I can hear all the people with their obviously illegal exhaust testing out their cars on Old Spicewood Springs. You can hear those loud vehicles even miles away.
  18. For those of you that got carpal tunnel surgery, which fingers were numb? Only thumb index and middle right? I am positive I have cubital syndrome because I get pinky and ring finger numbness in bed when lying in a certain position (especially when reading), or in the car when putting my arms on the arm rest. I get all fingers numb when riding so I don't think it's from carpal or cubital, but rather something in the shoulder or neck. I get instant relief if I take my hand off the handlebar and put it behind my back. This seems to happen in the first half hour to hour of a race or hard ride at trails like Peddler's or Walnut Creek, but doesn't seem to happen in trails like 1/4, DD, Jester, etc.
  19. and your old appliances! (I live close to where Old Lampasas Trail dead ends into the BCP, where old appliances go to die, and teens go smoke their bongs)
  20. This lead me to do some searches, and I ran into this: https://www.austinchronicle.com/news/2017-06-30/looking-back-on-the-champions-tract-rezoning/ And this: https://www.austinchronicle.com/news/2018-10-26/camelback-pud-ambles-forward/ So does that mean the senior living facility will not be built anymore? I can't find the stories in between that last one in October and what's posted above.
  21. I have a Sherline you're welcome to come use or borrow. I'm a hack so I'd feel nervous about turning your CK plate.
  22. Am I witnessing something like Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train but instead of making a deal to kill your wives you convince them that n+1 is the best thing? I expect brentb to return the favor at some point.
  23. I thought of that, but I think BSS would not approve of the NC-17 rating.
