  1. Other than May and June, October is the rainiest month in Austin. But we still get several months with no snow, no heat and awesome weather. With this much rain right now, the wildflowers are going to be epic in March and April next year. https://www.usclimatedata.com/climate/texas/united-states/3213
  2. based on no rain and previous tweet by Greg Maxwell, I think RHR will be fine today.
  3. The forecast looks awful though. Rain all weekend through Tuesday, then again on Saturday.
  4. They have a Twitter account. https://twitter.com/RockyHillRanch1
  5. The 5-borough ride is on my bucket list!
  6. 0.16" on the 8th, and 0.01" today. More rain expected this weekend through Wednesday though.
  7. The station off the golf course shows 1.21" and currently raining. https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KTXAUSTI955#history
  8. RHR got 0.16" of rain yesterday, but the weather station I've been watching has been down for 8 hours, so I don't know if they got more rain and I'm not willing to drive that far to find out. I think Walnut is probably good to go based on the closest weather station. I think that's what I'll be doing today.
  9. Some hubs have the option of just replacing the axle for a thru axle. You may not have to re-lace.

    2018 EB

So... back to an OG EB. I'm selfishly rooting for rain so I can ride it since I have a conflict with the regular date.
  11. I never made it. I was watching a small cell move closer and closer to RHR and decided against investing in the 2hr round trip. I opted for servicing my fork instead. I may take the day off today and go ride.
  12. Check out the week mode in this weather station close to Walnut Creek. I bet it's OK to ride: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KTXAUSTI135#history/s20180927/e20181004/mweek
  13. I'm heading out to RHR today since it looks like it got no rain. I'm going to take some Benadryl with me. Glad you're recovering. Scary stuff.
  14. It was brutal. People were falling left and right. A lot of people gave up and just rode on the dirt trails on either side of the road. I rode the hard stuff, thinking riding outside was cheating. You're at the start of a 100k ride with your HR already maxed out!
  15. Those are all in boutique frames though. If you go look for some of those using Pinion, the one vendor I looked at, unfortunately uses different level components in one vs the other, so it's hard to find the actual difference in the frames (e.g. Reba in the Pinion vs SID in the regular, M7000 brakes in the Pinion, M8000 brakes in the regular). I'd call the difference <$1k. It's within the range of consideration for the cost of wear on regular drivetrain components being a factor in the decision.
  16. We got heavy rain up here close to St. Ed's Thumper last night. The ground was already saturated.
  17. Today's pinion gearboxes are like the $800 CD players in 1982!
  18. Go to Maudie's on 360, order the tostada, and the burger. Open the burger, put the tostada in. Report back.
  19. I've done the Castell Grind but somehow forgot all about it! Yes, that sand at the start is terrible, but mostly it's all very nice gravel roads with very low traffic.
  20. I personally think they should go back to soft helmets without face masks, and only soft padding on the body. When people have a battering ram sticking out that far, they're going to use it. You may see more broken noses, bloody lips, black eyes, but I'm thinking you may see less CTE and less broken necks. Look at other contact sports with minimal protection: Rugby or ARF. Other than that, it's going to go the way of flags. They may as well put flags on the QBs already. I played in HS until 10th grade. Being average size in a 5A competitive school is not good for your body. I'm glad I "retired" from it. I had headaches every day after practice.
  21. throet, what time did you ride? Was that you going West to East on 1/4 notch around noon? I also think 1/4 notch was a bit slick. Some of those rocks looked mossy for the first time since I've been riding there. I kept thinking my rear tire was going low or my wheel was loose, but it was just some slight sliding around in the rocks. Mulligan had the usual muddy spot plus one other which I'd never seen. I have some French drain tubes and a dry well I don't need and I'll be giving away. I don't know if it's the kind of thing we'd be allowed to use on the trail or not. It will go to craigslist free otherwise. I'd really like to fix the drainage on that spot at the end of Mulligan. The sticks flow down and make a dam and then the mud accumulates over the armor that someone put in earlier this year.
  22. My mom just moved to Plantation, FL so I'm going to hit you S. Fla. guys up when I go back to visit to figure out where to ride.
