  1. Super solid advice, XT/XTR shifter with a SLX derailer for instance, saves money and you'll feel the difference much more at the shifter than at the rear mech.
  2. Awesome trail, this is great news! I am there as well for dig days!
  3. Used to live out there and had some nice loops, would start out at the Balcones park and bomb down that trail and shoot over to Topridge trail and come down on Scotland Wells and hit the side trails of Spicewood Springs up to St. Eds, do that long climb and hit the opposite side drops that link back up to the main trail. Super fun descents. Haven't been out that way in a while, makes me sad to think someone has make the trails mellower. Need to get back out there!
  4. Thought this was pretty cool! https://www.pinkbike.com/news/7-bikes-of-the-tour-divide.html
  5. I don't compromise on the frame or suspension, after that brakes are important and I agree with everyone else on Shimano brakes, they just work better and are easier to bleed. Too many issues with Sram brakes over the years. You can for sure save money building from the frame up, just takes time and detective work.
  6. My friends that kept coming loose on the trail was a Maxle, I have bolt on thru axles, torque them to spec and have had zero issues.
  7. I have seen this happen as well, think it was a result of my friends thru axle not torqued down tight enough, good thing it didn't result in a crash.
  8. ha thought it was one of the better april fools
  9. Well they don’t make bars in the Lee McCormack sweet spot for me, but it is already tricky with tree gates at 800mm. Anyone ride anything wider than 800mil?
  10. Haha yeah I had a Specialized Enduro that had 680mm "wide" bars. Seemed perfectly fine.
  11. That was really cool! Some amazing riding and locations! Also makes me realize I have no style. Brett Rheeder is on another level! Someone got a sweet XTR drivetrain!
  12. I ride with 800mm bars on a 50mm stem, I could go wider for sure, 820mm would be nice, but trees already don't like me. Had 740mm, 760mm and really short ones in the early 2000's and they just weren't wide enough. With 800mm it is so much better, not sure how I rode with those short bars before. For larger riders I think 800mm being easily available is awesome.
  13. Y'all should have them upgrade you to the Ramp Control Pros
  14. Fork looks great with your frame! The damper in the 36 is just really good. Enjoy! The rear shock is going to be a bigger difference methinks!
  15. That high pivot bike looks fast standing still. I freaking love the Minion SS here in centex!
  16. Here are my settings so far, started off from base fox settings, tinkered a little and added 2 volume spacers to the rear shock and 1 volume spacer to the fork for my clydesness (shocks tend to work better for me with lower air volume). ~250 lbs loaded up with gear and these settings seem to be working out well so far. Not a super agreesive rider, just big. Use clipless more than flats, and find that with flats I tend to bottom out the rear shock more consistently. Still getting the compression dialed and started with the compression fully open on the fork, hence clicks from open. Sorry for the ramble, but curious what y’alls settings are!? Fox 36 Grip2 with 2 volume spacers, 20% sag low speed rebound: 6 clicks out from closed high speed rebound: 4 clicks out from closed low speed compression: 5 clicks out from open high speed compression: 3 clicks from open Fox Float X2 with 4 volume spacers, 30% sag low speed rebound: 6 clicks out from closed high speed rebound: 8 clicks out from closed low speed compression: 12 clicks from closed high speed compression: 10 clicks from closed
  17. https://www.kut.org/post/statesman-reporter-recounts-mistake-allowed-lakefront-properties-avoid-paying-taxes Here's a good article. "They have access to police and EMS and fire services; fire is a little more limited because there's a lot of mutual aid agreements" "The services that they don't have are water, wastewater and trash. They are not connected to the larger water system and Austin Resource Recovery. The city's trash service does not pick up their trash."
  18. I went from a Rockshox Pike to a Fox 36 and could feel a significant difference. First off it is a lot stiffer, not that the 35mm stanchion Rockshox forks aren't. You will get more range of adjustments and the fork will be better at taking successive hits since it will have a better damper (not sure which Fox one you're getting) than the Rockshox RC (Motion Control or Charger RC). Put the fork on, the 36 is awesome! You will probably notice the fork outperforming the rear shock but that will just make you upgrade faster.
  19. Yeah WTH is right. Y'all think Muleshoe will be okay?
  20. Nice, Sinwolsan is also a rough climb. Soju and riding don't mix.
  21. Where was this? The climbing on Bundang was insane, especially up to Second Cemetery! Such good trails.
  22. I did the same, took it pretty easy, only moved up to Sticky Icky and kept mostly to Vipers Den. It honestly put in perspective how nasty our trails can get and how easy it is to eat sh*t. I used to think full faces were lame, I do not anymore. Saw so many skinned up elbows, looking into elbow pads as well.
  23. I saw a few crashes myself and the EMT's wrapping people up. I felt exposed without proper protection, I was one of the dumb ones for sure.
  24. Finally made it to Spider, Nukeproof Mega was good out there. Too much bike on the mellower stuff but really helped in the chunky sections. It is a long bike so the rear tire rubbed on the deck when getting it onto the lift, but no biggy. Had a total blast, there is a lot of potential there. Ordering a full face ASAP!
  25. Looks awesome already! Getting my Mega out there this weekend, will see how it fares.
