  1. \ just a small taste of the gnarliest enduro in texas. 1 day, 8 stages, 4400' ascending of pedal power

  2. I remember someone saw/talked to the suspected vandal and said there was some mental heath issues most likely present. I was thinking, the next time someone comes across the Bambi/Rudolph vandal they offer them a few bucks ($1-5) to help us keep the trail clear. I dont know how to make this work or if it will, but maybe incentive him to stop. Apologies in advance if this is a bad idea in dealing with homeless people.

  3. We rode MMS on Wednesday...it's all clear. One or two small things here and there, but it's gtg.

  4. @JRIDER Not surprised about Double Down. Trees were cleared on both it and 1/4 but it appears there is still some movement from the trees. Feel free to tackle it. I’m out of town until Monday.

  5. There is a tree over the trail on the west end of Deception. Not sure of the trail segment name, but it's just before you get to the jeep road. Also another tree down at the top of snail. I can take my chainsaw over there Friday or Saturday and take care of it if that's ok with upper level management.

  6. Probably the same as what's called 'Rocky Trail' where the old truck is...I'm thinking? It does line up with this trail. Some fun, chunky stuff...and it sounds cool as you ride it and all the rocks are bouncing off each other.

  7. Chunk Truck is before that. I always make a point to hit that segment. there are several alternative ways to get through there.

  8. Side note, the Kincheon Branch that shoots out of DN is a pretty fun, but overlooked, little section. The only downside is that once you hit Abilene Trail, you have to ride a bunch a blocks to get to trails that lead to Drip Drop. I can't remember what it's called, but it's something like rocky or chunky something. It just traces along the creek there...mostly pedestrians, I think, but a fun, even a little technical trail.

  9. River? You mean Slaughter Creek? I've seen a few rides now that have done just about everything in Mary Moore. So I'm assuming that it's clear. At the least, clear enough.

  10. On that note, when you approach the Valero Loop, there's a popular panhandler spot across from the gas station. you often see Joshua there with his dogs, tattoos on his face, and a sad sign. I've seen him around William Cannon / Brodie area as well. word is his white dog (I think it was Brian) died last week and some neighbors are working on having the dog cremated for him. so if you see him, be sure to leave a friendly gesture as I'm sure he's grieving right now. also on that spot, there's a guy with a mobile music setup who plays cover songs. he's quite good and worth sticking around to hear.

  11. I just called them and got through. Turns out my site 12 is a "double site." 16 person and 4 car capacity. I'll have to think on that a bit. But yeah, the lady who answered the phone said that since tents are all difference sizes, multiple tents are allowed. Presumably enough for the particular site's capacity. She said as long as you are entirely on your site, it didn't matter. The other thing I asked was bout the electric. The site says 50 amp (for hookups). I wanted to know if it was ONLY a 50 amp, in which case I'd need to bring a converter, or if it also has 110v. She said that the boxes "should" have 50 amp, 30 amp, and 110v plugs.

  12. Why do you think that? My site 12 details page says max 16 people and 4 cars. It doesn't specify tent capacity. I sent them an email though the contact form trying to clarify this.

  13. Yeah I was out about 11:30 or so. I saw the tire too.

  14. That right there scares me. I WOULD have went right over him. I ride w/o Rx glasses and would most likely never have noticed until my tire was rolling right over him.

  16. I remember in Bentonville on the Back 40 there is a little trail that shoots off into a creekbed. It's one of the 'black' trails so I had to check it out. It really just runs parallel to another trail and the only reason for it being there is to play in the rocks. It's as good a reason to build a trail as any!

  17. I recommend: NOT taking bikes = no worries about theft and the constant hassle of bike wrangling when they aren't in use. If you are in a mtn biking destination area, there will be quality bikes for rent. E-bikes and cruisers will be available for rent in more developed areas and you can cruise around as a fam. Just pack a bag with shoes, helmet and gloves and you're set. Thread drift: Rainbow Rim Trail shout out! Note: Spring Break is too early in the year (cold, snow) for the Kaibab Plateau, North Rim. But still, because there are vacations to come and this can be done in summer. The trail outside the national park on the north rim of the Grand Canyon is the Rainbow Rim Trail. We were there maybe 12 years ago and I loved it. More miles have been added for a total of 22 miles one way. It's a very, very long slog to get to the North Rim area and requires being self contained, although the National Park North Rim is relatively close by and has some services. It's not an overly technical trail, but it's a trail at 7,700' on the west edge of the Kaibab Plateau and there's close to 1,800' of cumulative climbing. It's character is that it contours the rim, so you ride out onto one of five points with spectacular views of the Canyon, then ride back into the Ponderosa pines and contour around a drainage, then back out onto the next point with some pinyons, sage and more gobsmacking views. This Trail Forks page shows clearly how the trail is laid out: Rainbow Rim Trail. They rate the trail as Intermediate in difficulty, with a physical rating of Moderate. We camped roughly in the middle, and did an out and back to each end; it was 18 miles end to end at that point and I don't recall that out & back for each segment was that stressful. Although this isn't wilderness and is carved up by numerous logging roads, I've never been in a place in the lower 48 that felt so "out there" remote and I don't know why exactly. We were getting close to camp finishing up the second segment at dusk. Mr. June Bug was riding slightly ahead of me and I got major "I'm being followed by a mountain lion" paranoia. No sighting, but again, just that kind of place. Camping was dispersed -- you just found your spot and set up anywhere, nothing developed, no services. Things have likely gotten more formal in the intervening years since what amazing place hasn't been discovered, trashed, and formalized w/ rules and regs. I very much want to go back. We may do this as a tour with Western Spirit this summer and let them handle logistics. Their four or so photos show a good sampler. The Arizona trail is close by, goes all the way from the North Rim to the Utah border, so that's another riding option. For example, AZ Trail, Passage 40, South Kaibab I hope I've convinced someone to go this summer. You get the Grand Canyon experience without the crowds and can ride a lovely trail that won't beat you up!

  18. Oh man! That's sweet! It even has space for the LoneStar beer of Washington State (Rainier).

  19. Seems like a good time/place for my Rattlesnake on Deception video. Good ol' Mittens! This may have been my 1st or 2nd ride ever at Deception. It was May of 15'.

  20. Probably the last update before the meeting - I will be there. I speak in support of the revised plan. The major issues have been worked out. It is not a perfect document but I think it is fair. I will thank the BCP staff for all of their work. This is a working relationship I hoped for but thought would never happen. It is a Christmas miracle. I invite anyone and everyone to come to the meeting. But it is not anywhere near as important to have a large number of supporters/speakers as it is when we are opposing something. Come on down if you have something to say or just want to watch. But don't cancel other plans or take vacation time for this meeting. We might need you at a later meeting.

  21. I ended up clearing about 10 pieces of brush - mostly broken tree limbs - from Bambi yesterday afternoon. They were small and easy to clear, but enough to make you stop. Clearly someone placed them there. Very annoying.
