  1. This is like if a frame doesn't have a water bottle mount. If I got it free or cheap, I'd deal with it. But if I were comparing two similarly priced models, it would be the deal breaker.
  2. Just think of all the real trolls, living under bridges and eating children, getting a bad name from all these internet jerks.
  3. You ride your bicycle. I'll ride my bihertz.
  4. Yeah, I get how gear ratios, torque, and leverage work. That's why I'm a little surprised there isn't a concrete answer to my question. "Subtract 1 tooth from the chainring for each 10mm of crank length" or something. I guess body geometry would factor in as well. Maybe that's the wildcard when you start talking about how it feels. Just like anything in life, equipment is no substitute for better technique. That doesn't stop me from wanting better equipment.
  5. For sure, but if mack_turtle says that a bike related article is too nerdy for him, I don't even have to click on it to know how far I'm going to get in that article.
  6. It seems like the shorter cranks would have some sort of effect on gear ratios, but from what I'm hearing, I guess it's pretty negligible?
  7. Any feedback on the shorter cranks? Is it going to feel weird? Less torque? Is 5mm of extra clearance going to make a difference for rock strikes? Or maybe I should go shorter to a 165mm?
  8. This bike looks like it may have spent a few nights outside the comfort of a garage.
  9. It's more fun to speculate about it with my internet friends. I'm going to replace most or all of my drivetrain. I'm actually really happy with my current setup (which I've been running for several years), but it's worn out. So on the list of replacement parts are all the things that touch each other: cassette, chainring, chain, and derailleur. It's a 4 year old bike that I'm hoping to get another year or two out of, so I'm not looking to break the bank on upgrades. Currently running a GX 11 speed group, 28T chainring, 11-42 cassette, 175mm crankset, 27.5+ wheels/tires. As I said, I'm pretty happy with the current gear range. I rarely spin out at the high end, and when I do, I'm more than happy to coast and enjoy not pedalling. On the low end, I clean more features in the 36T cog, but I'm thankful to have one lower bailout gear when the days get long. So, just about perfect for me. Now, the things I don't know about. I want to try an oval ring. I'm also thinking about going to a 170mm crank for better clearance. I'm most concerned about how those 2 changes will feel in the lowest 2 gears rock crawling tech features (the kind of riding I most enjoy).
  10. Sorry. Gotta give credit where it’s due. I probably wouldn’t have tried this if you hadn’t of posted it. I’m glad I did.
  11. I was of the same mindset until covid made it expensive PLUS an impossible wait time. I did my fork and shock (both Fox) with some frustration on each. However, I wouldn't hesitate to do it again now that I've done it once.
  12. My wife has family in the area too (Lake Palestine). We usually spend our time fishing and wakesurfing, but I'll be sure to bring the bike next time we head up there during colder weather. Thanks for the reminder that these trails exist.
  13. I know AXTZJ posted this one already, but MAN!! This shit is crazy. It’s like that spicy/sweet Mexican candy that I both love and hate at the same time.
  14. I was going to mention this, but forgot. At this point in what we know about head injuries, why not? There is very little to no cost, weight, or comfort difference. For anyone not familiar with MIPS, it allows the helmet's shell to move a little independently from the strappy doohickeys that have a deathgrip on your skull. It is designed to reduce the rotational forces that can jossel your brain around inside your head and cause concussions. It is not intended to absorb a straight on impact better than a standard helmet.
  15. ...or want to stop getting invited to ride with anyone.
  16. I have a Montaro MIPS and like it. It doesn't have a ton of vents, but it is not too hot to wear in the summer. I fall into the same category of mack_turtle. I just buy Giros because every time I've tried something different, I'm disappointed. For me it comes down to the sizing options of the brand. Some do a S/M and a L/XL. I'm pretty firmly in the middle of those options. Giro does S, M, L (or some version of that), and the M fits me well.
  17. My mileage do not vary from this statement. I started on Shimanos. I just wanted to try something different so got some egg beaters. Then, tried Times largely on the local hype on Mojo. They were way better than the Crank Bros, but I had the cleat wear issue and had a lot of unintentional releases due to rock strikes. When I went back to SPDs, I had to wonder why I spent years on anything else.
  18. I hadn’t had this one before. Plus, I like the name. The beer is pretty tasty too.
  19. I've been carrying an aspirin tab in my pack for years. (Should probably refresh it.) I hope I never have to cram it down one of my riding buddy's throats, but it could also save their life. This sucks.
  20. Just curious if anyone around here has ridden the Full Stache. I don't know if Trek even makes it anymore.
  21. Hookers. Talk about an expensive hobby.
  22. A wise man once told me "I don't race. I've ruined too many hobbies by getting competitive." Spreadsheet fall into that same category.
  23. It's amazing how calm and pure inner panic can look so similar.
  24. I remember there was a thread over on Mojo where someone had their bikes hung on hook by one wheel (alternating rear/front to make room for handlebars). The hooks were loosely hung to a rod so that he could file through them like shirts hung up in a closet.
  25. Looks like he had his fork locked out.
