I had 3 terrible laps but still had a blast. It was my first time trial of any kind. first lap I got there thinking I had plenty of time but the schedule got pushed up (people were getting all three laps as early as they could so everyone was done early). I had just put a new front tire and hadn’t even checked pressures. Turns out 6psi too high in front and 6psi too low in the back (thought I was going to burp the rear). Went out too hard yadda yadda yadda still my best lap at 17:00 (not my best PP lap by far). 2nd lap had right pressures paced better but still went too hard and thought I was going to die from the heat on the west side. Slowed down a bunch once I got back on the east side. 17:40 3rd lap I was well rested, I paced well and felt fast. On one of those rocky berms on the west side I low-sided, face plant, fingers wrists and right elbow hurt, ate some dirt but didn’t chip teeth. Took a couple of minutes at least to gather myself and straighten my seat. Got passed. Took it easy for a bit but then got going faster again. Felt cooler (lots more wind on the 3rd lap). Ended up 19:40. Faster than I thought all things considered which tells me that was probably my fastest lap. Being mostly endurance-focused I had a lot of learning to do, and I loved it. I can’t wait to do it again! Thanks Ronan, Todd and all involved in putting this race on!

+1 Is that a feather?

It's better if you capture your seat on the picture to get a reference. I'll post mine up. I move them around depending on what I'm doing. For endurance rides I point them up more. For playing around I have them a bit flatter, but it depends on how my hands are feeling. If I point them up too high, the outside heel of my hand gets irritated. I'll ride around with a single 4mm Allen wrench for quick on-the-fly adjustments.

I've got my Ergons pointed up like yours. Makes a huge difference on long races. I get the ones with the bar ends. It is nice to change positions sometimes.

I never reported back regarding whether my more XC geometry SS was faster than my XC FS bike. I rode it again not able to complete a lap due to construction at the time, but I did notice what I think was the difference maker: tires. My SS has a softer compound with similar size side lugs compared to my FS bike. So I may put a new front tire on my FS for Saturday if I find the time.

Does anyone know if they have a volunteer FD?

LOL! Not the most popular neighbor at the yearly picnic I bet. Oopsie! This right here: In general, I think it's BS for the city to say you won't pay taxes but you will get no services in unincorporated areas. The reality is that EMS and AFD will respond where needed and when needed.

I found my old Austin Cycling Kyle ride and loaded it to RidewithGPS. We started from Mozart's. https://ridewithgps.com/trips/35882859 -

My pest control guy lives down south and was telling me about the new paved path along SH45, says it's pretty nice. Cody, we need to do a path finding adventure ride down south. -
I rode in my neighborhood and it was awesome. I'd even say a bit chilly going downhill. Better than a trainer ride!

OK one of my ride mates on the TdC sent me the day 1. I know you're asking for what is essentially day 2 (I'm waiting on it). https://www.strava.com/routes/19516328 -
Of course 2nd week in a row I plan on riding R&I, load my bike, and the rain comes.

those numbers make no sense. I thought maybe they were in seconds, but the numbers are too large for them to be in seconds. What equipment is this location from?

You won the internet today in my book.

Yes, the eastern route is what we took for Tour de Cure. I'll try to dig it up from my archives. -
Wow! That looks like quite severe graining plus a lot of pickup. I cannot imagine what it's like to get into the marbles on a motorcycle.

Went to Muleshoe Yesterday...

Thanks June Bug! I was looking whether that was the case, or whether it was remnants from the cretaceous period. While researching, I ran into this which some may find interesting/useful. I learned some things: https://www.cengage.com/custom/regional_geology.bak/data/Texas.pdf -

I was going to point you to the Bike Austin Kyle ride, but it looks like they no longer do it. I wonder if that says something about the route? I know that even a few years ago. OSR didn't seem the safest road to take. I did the Tour de Cure a few years back from San Antonio to Austin, but it was a lot more circuitous route. I bet some of the south folks will post with more recent info. I feel more comfortable out of the city. IMO the suburban FM/RM are the worst. -
What 2 old trail builders do when it’s 100+ outside

+1 I was thinking of them also as we were watching the news. -
I used to never ride on the drops, until after a bike fit they swapped out the bars and stem for me. Now I ride on the drops all the time, on the flats, climbing, descending.
