  1. ^^^^^This ^^^^^ Note that Ridenfool's home trail is Rocky Hill which is hell on drivetrains. I've had a drivetrain wear out in 24 hours because I used a lube incorrectly (Chain-L without the proper steps). That's cassette, chainring, and chain that had to be replaced. I shoot to get 1200-1500 miles out of a chain. I'll replace between 50% and 75% of life so as to save my cassette and chainring longer. Most other trails are pretty benign as far as chain life.
  2. I've tried almost everything: Boeshield T9, Pedros Syn Lube, Pedro's Ice Wax, Finishline blue, Chain-L No. 5, Squirt, Rock-n-Roll Gold (currently)...probably forgetting 3-4 more. The light stuff like gold and blue has to be re-applied often. In a 24hr race, that means ever 3-4 hours in dry conditions. The best for long-term and long chain life has been Chain-L but it's a PITA to apply. I want to try real wax (like heat and dip) since I recently bought myself an ultrasonic with heating cleaner and it leaves the chains looking like new. Squirt does cake on but it seems to last a while and it protected my chains through muddy events. Right now I'm pretty happy with the Gold stuff.
  3. "Being granted probation, the sentence he originally got, was a gift. It was a gift borne out of grace from the Ketterhagen family in that hope that he would do something with it, that his life would be profoundly changed the way that theirs were.” Ketterhangens are nicer than I am. Good riddance!
  4. Thanks! I figured that much, but it's amazing at the pricing differential between "8-speed" and "6/7-speed" shifters!
  5. Even though they didn't capitalize or TM Segway, that's a very specific reference (as is the Emma Long motorcycle reference). If I were a one-wheel rider (?, surfer?) I'd want to get clarification.
  6. I'm on record here as saying my interactions with one-wheels have been positive. But you are quoting Texas code. Here's the CoA ordinance that's applicable. The definition is a lot more broad. https://library.municode.com/tx/austin/ordinances/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=836575 8-1-31 To summarize: a person may not operate a motor vehicle, or "motor driven device" in a public recreation area unless: it's a City vehicle, or you have permission from the parks director. I second AustinBike's advice to create your advocacy group and work with PARD to specifically allow your one-wheels.
  7. When you paste the text, at the bottom it will tell you "pasted as rich text. Paste as plain text instead" or something like that. Just click on the "paste as plain text instead"
  8. This is how your post looks to us in dark mode (except in much smaller print)
  9. Rear D is an Acera 7-speed with the MF-TZ21 freewheel.
  10. This is for a hybrid/commuter bike Jamis Coda) with 120mm rear spacing (no way to use my old XX shifters). The grip shifts suck plain and simple. I’m trying to decide between Shimano Acera m310 shifters, Shimano EF41, or SunRace m53. They are all cheap new albeit clunky and heavy (not much choice for 7-speed chain spacing) If it was only me riding, I would consider friction shifters, but this will be a family neighborhood bike so I want indexed shifters. if anyone wants these 3x7 grip shifts let me know. thanks!
  11. I have a soft spot in my heart for old dogs.
  12. I've been eyeing Ford Transits after checking out @Ridenfool's.
  13. Coincidentally, this just popped up on Jalopnik yesterday: https://jalopnik.com/the-toyota-4runner-is-old-as-hell-but-now-i-get-why-eve-1833981565 For you guys with toppers, how secure are the locks on those compared to a car lock?
  14. If it's the "Señor Limpio!" video, I think it was in the ccw direction. Someone was doing a wheelie on the parking lot right?
  15. I love this new feature, but I have a question: Are y'all still seeing each section marked as having unread items even though everything you see has been read?
  16. I kept checking waiting for this. I'm leaving satisfied.
  17. $1300 got my 14yo a very nice new bike at BSS. $150 more and it would have been a step up. I still wish I'd done that. My youngest got a CL bike $800 for a 25lbs race hardtail. $300-400 gets you a very nice bike...but with companies like Marin, the entry point for even new bikes is pretty low for pretty decent quality these days!
  18. I had a hard fall off my bike when the rain jacket in my jersey pocket came out and got tangled in my wheel. It was a slow motion realization and wrangling-the-Bike moment before I opted for the soft wet grass rather than trying to save it and end up on the pavement or curb. So I think capes would definitely be dangerous!
  19. This is not to be underestimated. I used to watch a cheesy but entertaining Canadian auto show called "Sports Car Revolution" that had a segment called "Dyno Truth or Dare." In here they had all sorts of people come with their highly customized cars. This dude spent $80k "souping up" and customizing his Prelude. I think it dynoed at 250HP. He could have bought a nice 911 for that money. He was CRUSHED and defiant.
  20. I noticed some pretty big bass that last time I rode through there.
  21. OK, glad to see this post. I thought I was going crazy when I was looking through the map.
  22. +1 I'm totally looking more forward to watching the fast guys almost as much as I am about riding.
