  3. I have no idea who the admin or admins are over on MoJo, but I think it's been running on "cruise control" for some time. The forum software hasn't been updated in five years, and there are known exploits for that version of vBulletin. Spicewookie was doing a good job of cleaning up the spam from the bots, but they've become increasingly aggressive, and at one point there was a new spam post once a minute in Austin VooDoo. I know the admins cleaned up Austin VooDoo, but the rest of the forum is still plagued with spam and it doesn't look like they made any effort to delete all the spam accounts or clean up anything outside of that. I've been watching new registrations on MoJo, and the bots are still registering at the rate of around 15 a day. And I'm sure 95% of new registrations (if not more) are spambots. Just take a look at the links for each of the home icons you can see at the above link and they all go to some sketchy website. And there was another big wave of spam early this morning. I have had people ask if I can transplant threads from MoJo to this forum. While technically it would be possible (and I could certainly do it with a copy of the forum database), legally it's a sketchy area. I'd need permission from whoever owns Bike MoJo first. And many forums are setup where individual members own their comments, so in cases like that you'd really need permission from all those people to copy their comments over. Which obviously would be a huge pain in the ass. Creating an archive of Austin VooDoo would be a great idea and is something I could do, but again, I'd need a copy of the database and the blessing of Bike MoJo's owner at a minimum. I could import the entirety of Austin VooDoo into a forum here so people could continue to reference threads, and if something were to happen to Bike MoJo, at least that would be saved for posterity. If the current admins are asleep at the wheel, one of the following things is going to eventually happen: 1) The site goes away when the owner stops paying for the hosting costs, 2) The hard drive on the site crashes, taking the site with it, 3) The forum database crashes, making the site inaccessible, or 4) The site gets hacked and erased. I have no idea if active backups are being made of the site, but if not and any of the above happens, that would probably be the end of all those posts forever. I just want to have a place to talk about mountain biking on a site that is actively maintained. And if the person running the site is a local who is actively involved in mountain biking, that is certainly a plus. I want to have some fun with this site, and it's a modern platform that will give me the flexibility to add some cool features over time. I completely understand people not wanting to move to another forum, or not happy about change. Hell, anytime I make significant changes to my other forum, there are people who grouse about it for a while. Yeah, this site has a bit more "structure" than posting everything in "Austin VooDoo", but I'm ultimately hoping this site will garner more traffic, and the organization of forums will be needed. And I'm open to suggestions on how to improve the forum, so please don't hesitate to say anything if you have an idea to make something better, or there's something you don't like. I won't be offended. ..Al

  4. IMHO one of the things you have to have really dialed in for the DS are your "touch points". You need to have the correct saddle, clothing, gloves (multiple pairs?), shoes, grips, etc.. -CJB

  5. cross bike is my only one without dropper and has been so in years. My input might not be 100% applicable. On my X bike i had to put an ultra short (specialized powr) saddle to keep from getting hung up on my shorts etc. More than getting back on the bike for descents, i like dropping the saddle on techy climbs and fast corners so i can move all around the bike. F@ck having to straddle that barstool. Give it a shot as there's only one way to know just leave the cable in the ST in case you want to reinstall. Worst case, go with a light, shorter travel XC oriented post. There's a ton out now.

  6. Thanks a bunch to you all Albert! I'd like to buy beers for that crew. You all deserve it, that had to be some serious work. If everything get taken care of between Cedar Breaks and Sawyer, then it would get everything. The rest of the trail sections seemed fine to me. -CJB

  7. I've installed a Gallery module for the forum to make it easier for people to upload photos in an organized fashion. Right now there are a few different categories, Bikes, Trails, and Work Days. Plus you can create galleries outside of those subjects in the Member Gallery area. I uploaded a collection of photos from our trail work today at Lake Georgetown. You can view them below: Once you've uploaded photos to an album, you can easily share individual photos from a gallery or the entire collection of photos in a post, as I've done above. Users can also browse the gallery directly to view photos. Enjoy! ..Al

  8. Four of us spent four hours walking between Cedar Hollow and Crockett Springs to remove all the downed trees from the trail. I've never seen such carnage on a relatively short segment of trail like this before! Here's a gallery of photos: There are still a few trees down between Crockett and Cedar Breaks, and hopefully those will get taken care of next week in time for Cody's two-lap Dragonslayer pre-ride. ..Al

  10. And with the control they have. Having been to Ft William in Scotland and seen the course there, I'm in awe at watching them fly through that rock infested moonscape at 25-30 mph. It's so incredibly humbling to see them do that and do it so casually. That's why when I laugh hard internally when I hear locals talk their big game here and say I could hang with Gwin/Neko Mullaly/<insert elite level pro here>. No, you can't. Because until you have seen that in action, you have no in-person idea of just how fast these people go. And how precise they are at that speed. Yeah, they may be fast in comparison to someone like me or you, but in comparison to even someone like Valentina Holl- the junior women winner by a long shot (who won every race this year by a minimum of 10 seconds and would have podiumed in elite women in a bunch of them) they would be left in the dust.

  12. I was using Stan's but they changed the formula and now it constantly weeps out the side walls of Schwalbe tires. Switched to Orange Seal and no more weeping. I know I need more sealant when I go to go for a ride and one of my tires is flat:)

  14. I literally just logged into my myspace account and it still works. MOJO does too. Truly, I'll go to the site that has the Austin MTBrs I respect and that are passionate about mountain biking ... and have opinions. I don't care if we share on 2 cans and a string of yarn, a bathroom wall at the Hole and the Wall ("No matter how pretty she is, someone, somewhere, is tired of her sh*t") or out on the trails ("No, please...just let me fix it."). It just a forum. Pick the one you like. I'll straddle both. Plus I found the Deflection-Dark Theme so all is well.

  15. I specifically said, "not at the poster" so please don't be offended. I have been on for less than five years so I feel like a noob myself. I was thinking of the join dates for some of these other guys, 2003 etc. Sorry Riding Again, I don't know why you were mentioning me in your post.

  16. That's exactly what happens, and is what should have happened a few years ago when a bunch of outtatowners came through town to show us how it's done. No one gets accused of cheating, but you need have 83.5 miles on your GPS (or whatever it happens to be), AND no one protesting that they passed you multiple times, yadda yadda, to be in the clear.

  18. My thoughts are since the admins there never check in or do anything, they aren't going to take it down. I assume the forum will be there in perpetuity. So if we ever need to reference something we will always be able to go look it up there. There might be 231 pages of Korean to get past, but it will be there. I personally like the, "You might be a trail builder..." thread for example. I might go and find it at some point. But this is much better. Administered by a fellow MBer, and specifically for Austin folks. I laughed thinking about (not at) the one poster there that was all nostalgic for Mojo. He has been a member for all of 13 months now. If some of you long time Mojo-ers can see the benefits of this move, then why can't everyone. It's not like we are going to hurt the feelings of our good friends that run it, right?

  21. I said earlier in the thread that I’ve done it 2.3 times. That’s because my third time was when I had a 6 month old and didn’t feel like I could be gone all day (takes me 12hrs to finish). So I did what I call the breakfast platter. I rode to Walnut from home, rolled out with everyone and did the BCGB portion. Then I rode the route towards City Park, but I stopped at the shopping center at Bee Caves rd where I had left my car the night before. Yeah I could’ve gone farther of course, but I got in a good ride and enjoyed the camaraderie. The year before I trained some beforehand and set the goal of completing it in 12hrs and riding every climb (HOL, Courtyard, City Park, Jester, St. Ed’s, Youpon, and even the last awful climb out of Thumper). I did it. Came in around 11hrs 50ish min. But I’ve never felt closer to death than I did while finishing Walnut. I bonked so hard. I couldn’t eat anything, felt nauseous, and my calves and thighs would immediately cramp up if I pointed my feet down. I rolled in to mulch island, got my photo with the plate and pink fork and then promptly was driven home by my wife before having some soup and going to bed. Totally worth it! Refusing to quit or planning ahead to quit. Either one works. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  22. BikeRadar did a really nice job with their recent comparison. Stan's came out on top, which is what I've been using. Tried the orange seal too for a while, and it seems to work fine as well. The Stans seems to last longer. You can get an injector tube for the Stan's, but I just use my empty Orange Seal container with valve tube, and top it off from my big Stan's container. I've heard rumors that you shouldn't mix the two, but I have and haven't had any bad experience as a result.

  25. Here's my Strava from this morning (including to and from my house). We rode part of Picnic, then 1/4 Notch W-E, then Peddlers. Those guys split and then I rode Rim and Snail to finish things off. Definitely a casual pace but we'll likely pick it up once the weather cools. https://www.strava.com/activities/1794321994

  27. It was great getting the Fri morning ride back on track today. Still missing #Morris, but #Cafeend joined me and #Chief this morning. Those guys both have to go to work though, while I get to fix omelets for me and my wife and then take a nap. I'm going to post this up in the Ride Calls section as a regular Fri morning thing in case others are interested.
