  1. Took a spin out there today and the trail is in excellent condition. The first woods section is windy and has just enough ups and downs to keep things interesting. It is always a treat. Exiting, I weaved through the Longhorns laying down imitating that bull Lyle Lovett sings about chasing the shade all day. The banked turn at the bottom of Gas Pass (formerly "Shit Yer Pants" trail) was new to me. I have to remember to carry more speed next time. Climbed out of the creek after a while and then came back down Mule Trace. Caught a refreshing light rain while in the Oil Well pasture. After that it was across the suspension bridge, up Palisades, on through Roller Coasters and done. After hitting the bike wash and loading up I noticed how one of my beers, a Shiner Ruby Redbird, seemed to be in distress and getting warm. Being trained in beer first aid this was concerning to me and I felt it needed immediate attention. So, I bought a frozen Longhorn Sirloin to toss on top of it and get that crisis under control. It was close I tell ya, real close. Warda always delivers a fun trail, mostly because it is a different kind of fun, it is well maintained. I've been riding out there since just after it opened. That was the first MTB trail I rode, and that set the foundation for, shit, a quarter century or so of riding at the first MTB ranch in beautiful Wardy, Tejas.

  2. Let me just call it: the R&I will not happen at WC this week. I will be more diligent about posting an urban alternate if the skies clear for Tuesday afternoon/evening.

  7. I'm going to fix this so it displays a popup to confirm you want to mark the forum as read. It already does this on mobile devices, not sure why they decided not to do it all the time. ..Al

  10. CJB, very familiar with route from Thumper to Cedar Park. I used this route for years and cross any major roadway at stop lights. Most of my route is west of 183 through Neighborhoods. It is very easy to get to the YMCA and enter the far west end of DD.

  11. Wife ran the main trail from Zilker this morning and said it was bone dry including the creek crossings. I'd say it's good to go.

  12. I just got back from being there this past weekend. That place is awesome. You need a week to ride everything there. They're adding trail all the time and Trailforks just can't keep up. Find a local that can show you around. The town is kind of a mini-classic-Austin. Very family friendly, an emerging hipster/creative element, great food and beer, and enough retail/commercial development to keep it from feeling like a small country town. The traffic is way better though.

  13. Check out kessler if you get too crowded in bentonville. Its basically brushy and greenbelt but with elevation. If you can stick to in town trails, the back 40 would be my first if i were hitting it in the fall. Enjoy!

  14. The OP of this thread said that there was an event happening in the Bentonville trail area... I was simply giving suggestions of what I know to be good options that are all within an hour or so drive of Bentonville. I was thinking make a day-trip outside of Bentonville on one of the days of the 3-day OZ event, and then ride the local trails on the other days. That way it's not three days of only riding trails with lots of riders on them. It's also just a suggestion.

  18. Cutting down a little hackberry yesterday, I didn't notice a paper wasp nest attached to the trunk, about a foot off the ground. I was nailed on my leg just below the knee and below the second knuckle on my ring finger. Hosed the nest down with wasp spray this morning -- sorry/not sorry little wasps. Hanging nests with polygonal cells = paper wasps. I googled "wasps" this morning and these are paper wasps, not yellowjackets. I've had lots of nests start under the eaves of the house and they had one going by the front porch light, which I discovered when I stepped out the door and was immediately nailed on the head. However, earlier in the week, I noticed a nest getting going on my front porch, attached to a little porch ornament, just a few inches off the ground, so I'm seeing nests close to the ground rather than up in the eaves, but they seem to be the same type of wasp. The stings yesterday were also much more powerful than other wasp stings I've gotten. Had to take Bendryl last night because of itching; both stings are red, swollen and hot to the touch. Really glad it was only two stings. Anyway, might be a good time to go on patrol around your house, look under the eaves, in trees, down low in shrubs and tree branches and wherever and make sure they aren't wasps ready to attack. Might also consider adding a tab or two of Benadryl to your fist aid kit in your CamelBak. On-line first aid recommendations (reputable sources) include washing off sting, ice pack and taking either Benadryl or Claritin to help combat swelling and itching. I can easily imagine numerous stings seriously setting you back.
