  1. some clarification for everyone. The trail is not open for use yet! we are complete with the BIG machines and the major earth moving, however we still have the smaller machines going on finish work. we are hoping to have it to a point soon for some ride sessions for the folks that come out for the volunteer work day. Anyone is welcome to come look at it and check it out, but until the return line is complete we ask everyone not to ride it yet. ARR will be posting more information soon . In addition we ask everyone to Please stay away from the Travis County Maintenance office and shop, no trails are near or around it and it is not the way out. If you walk the new trail please walk it back up until return line is complete! Thanks

  2. I've done that to remove a headset before. Yeah, it's ugly. If you are doing it on an aluminum frame you might be ok, but this is a brand new carbon frame so I don't want to screw anything up. Tools cost a little more than a trip to the shop, so they'll pay for themselves over the life of the bike. And I am happy to loan them out if anyone has a press fit bottom bracket or needs to change a headset.

  5. With our last remodel I had a ton of network cables run throughout the house and then had them pulled to various locations, with an On-Q panel put in my office so that I could tie them all together easily. What I got was a shitty electrician that ran the cables and just popped jacks on the end. Half of the runs were not done properly meaning I could only get 100Mb/s, not gigabit. I fixed those, but never really took the time to do the cabling right in the panel, which is how I ended up with this: This is data, phone (POTS, not VoIP) and even cable TV/cable modem - don't ask me, I think they screwed up in putting that in there. Anyway, I got a punchdown block and actually did it right. Everything is organized and there is about 20' of cable length that was cut off. The 4 cables on the right are actually for runs with nothing connected right now, just left enough length that if I needed to pull it to a punchdown I'd have plenty of room. The handy tip for anyone attempting this is measure twice, cut once. Also, put a piece of tape over the electrical outlet so that if you clip off some cable ends you won't end up with a spare bit landing in your electrical outlet. Also, Power over Ethernet is a very cool feature. I love running a switch without a wall wart.

  8. I subscribed to Rich's channel a few weeks ago and have really enjoyed his content. His instructional videos are among the best I've seen. He created quite a stir with his "Drops How To" video a few weeks ago and then released a follow-up video to clarify around the controversy while demonstrating his prescribed technique on some monster drops in Bentonville.

  10. I was there last week with some folks from Houston, San Antonio, & other areas. We all used to go to Dirt Fest. Now we just plan an annual trip around this time. 🙂

  11. I saw one in Bentonville last week. I have to say that after blasting down some amazing trails and ending up at the bottom of a valley, with only one gear to get me back up, the thought of having a motor help me get back to the top was appealing. Of course, if I had a motor, would I have enjoyed the downhills as much? Probably, yes. Would I have got as good a workout? No way IMO. Would I have ridden more trail? Probably. However, it’s not always about riding more trail. To me it’s about enjoying the trail I’m riding more. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  12. I did my Fox 34 this weekend. Not that hard. Borrowed the Fox tools to tap the bottom of the damper and air spring loose and that made it easier. I replaced the filthy foam rings but not the wiper seals. Replaced the 140mm air spring with a 120mm. Now I have a spare 130 and 140mm shaft for a Fox 34, in case anyone wants to change theirs. PM me.

  13. Here's the complete ride report from Rich. Probably the best Spider testimonial I've seen to date, especially for somebody who earns their living mountain biking in Bentonville. He's a ripper too which makes the vid really entertaining to watch.

  15. New flow on Inner and Outer Logs loops is GREAT! Props to the builders for keeping Walnut fun.

  16. This has been a concept I have had for a long time, and is the basis of what we're doing on the Outer Log Loops: a log feature where there is dirt up, logs in the middle, and dirt down. You can optionally go slower and ride the logs, go faster and skim them, or pull up and jump them. On the first one (at the beginning of Outer Log Loops), we spent one 3-hour Austin Ridge Rider work day cutting and gathering logs, then another ARR work day building it (Jan 19): https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=467776887228151&id=278952176110624 https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=464574400881733&id=278952176110624 We intend on making more upgrades (like more dirt on the right side of the logs to hold them solid. (The little dirt kicker that was added to the top left side was an unauthorized addition, and I've had several conversations with the guy who added it. I'm going to re-do it further to the left, but not tearing what he did down until that time). There are also plans to improve the second one (after the 180 berm). So, basically, both will get upgraded to version 2.0. (The drawing says 3 feet tall, but right now, they're only about 2 feet tall). (The drawing has two features back-to-back, but on Outer Log, it's just a single feature.) --Cullen Austin Ridge Riders, Trail Steward, Walnut Creek Park

  17. There's a "I'm a Huge Pussy Line" to the right. What's the problem?

  18. I was part of the trail crew that worked with Cullen building that first feature. I can assure you that he is VERY cautious about what gets built out there and that it’s safe and fun for riders of all skill levels. In fact, he built up those features in phases to allow people time to get used to them and not surprise anyone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  19. CMC is having trouble logging on. So here is the official scoop on those jumps - The jumps were approved and installed on an official work day. Someone has taken it on themselves to modify the first one by adding a kicker. That may still be happening (not confirmed by CMC or myself yet). There is more work planned on both jumps. Both jumps were approved as "optional" since the rider can chose to ride/jump them or to bypass them since they are built off the side of the existing trail. There is more info and even pictures on the Walnut Creek Mountain Biking Facebook page.
