Man...if you sign up for this thing...these guys will stay on top of you. They really, REALLY want you to poop in that box and send it to them ASAP. You'll get more calls for shitting in a box than you will for extending your car warranty. Luckily my was negative.2 points

I do lots of turn-by-turn navigation with the 520. My biggest complain has been addressed with newer firmware. Now I can easily override auto/zoom from the page map, instead of having to go through a bunch of menu options. It makes a difference whose map you use. Keep the points to a minimum but make sure you have some at turns. Battery life is OK but make sure if you're in a very long ride to turn off Bluetooth. It does drain the battery faster, especially if you're doing navigation. Above the 520 is my 705 for one main reason: the little joystick. Thanks for the note on OpenStreetMap @WLemke, I'll have to check that out.1 point

I can only speak to my 520 but the map it does display gives enough details to see where you are and upcoming turns. With a turn by turn GPX file loaded, it alerts you when you’re getting close to your turn and even adjusts the scale for better granularity. Battery life is great on the 520 as well and I would assume it is the same or better on the 530. In the two EBs I’ve rode in, I had about 25% battery left. One thing about the Garmin devices is the stock map sucks and is basically useless. I deleted it and downloaded a much better map from OpenStreetMap. There is a guy named “DC rainmaker”, who has a good tutorial on getting the OpenStreetMap onto your device. If the bolt can be programmed through your phone, that is a huge plus. With my 520, I have to load all my routes through my computer.1 point

I have a few century/ aloe type plants where I had to remove lots of frosbit foliage but I read that as long as the "crown"/ center of the plant is ok, it will recover. I have other plants that look like death. I trimmed off to encourage new growth if the plant isn't 100% dead. Now, it's wait and see. I had a close friend who is also a city arborist come look at my live oaks after the storm, here's a few takeaways. Oaks are tough, short of oak wilt, they are very hardy. Live oaks go through "Leaf exchange" around Feb/March, I've noticed it every year because I have to "vacuum" the leaves every spring to keep the grass uncovered. This year does seem, earlier, quicker and heavier. IMO, I bet the ice accelerated this. That being said, I've had years where it happened so abruptly that I swore one of my trees died. Then a week later it looked like nothing happened. Leaf Exchange:https://preservationtree.com/blog/is-this-oak-wilt-disease-or-normal-leaf-drop1 point

I picked it up at the Brewtique on Cypress Creek in Cedar Park. A bit pricey at $15 per 4-pk, but no regrets over the splurge.1 point

I had to drive to Beaumont and back last Wednesday (that drive sucks enough in one direction, roundtrip is exponential and not geometric suck) and drove by a palm nursery. Their big palms up front were completely brown, but I could see some in the back that looked green still. http://www.palmsofparadise.com1 point

This is from a nursery in the Houston area, but should be fairly similar. Not a lot of info. Fingers crossed. https://www.kvue.com/article/news/local/winter-freeze-plants-survived-dead/285-beaf8486-511b-4da6-a74a-b14cbc00e3ef1 point

Yeah. Leaves everywhere. The other freeze effect we have is that every type of palm tree, whether a tall tree or those tiny bushes, had every one of their palm leaves die. Anyone know whether they're all done for? Will they sprout again this spring?1 point
-
Pretty much every Live Oak in my area is dropping all of their leaves. I've never seen them do this. Most of the big bushes I have are doing the same thing, and some of them NEVER lose their leaves at all.1 point

That big tree on Valero and all of Koopa Troopa has been cleared. I took a different route than normal through Latta and cleaned that up. Still 5 different routes through there I never ride so who knows but the truck route and another one are done. Fire House is clear of the big stuff but I ran out of daylight and there are some face slappers and smaller issues I didn't have time for. I didn't make it to House Fire before the sun went down but I just heard that's good to go anyway.1 point

New YouTube video of Portal Trail in Moab, Utah is posted on my Seth Buckgnar YouTube Page! Video link in Bio! There was so much riding that I’m going to have to do individual videos for each major ride we did throughout the trip. Which is awesome! id really love to get to ride these trails throughout this trip a bunch of times and be able to rip down them! but was a blast for the first time rides! Had relatives die and also come back from the dead due to cardiac arrest. Shit is real AF. Mark Weir really messed me up, and opened my eyes how it could happen to any of us. @TheX congrats on the anniversary and glad to have you and @Cafeendriding the dirt rather than in it.1 point
