  1. You do a have pretty cool cross bike that I've regretted letting go of every time it rains
  2. Buy used. That is all https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/list/?region=3&category=2&price=..1000&wheelsize=10
  3. These guys are definitely doing the beetles some justice on this cover . F@ck me!
  4. All I got Then there's this........
  5. Unfortunately, a majority of people are just f@cking stupid. Hopefully, you can stop 20-30% of these "mountain bikers" from riding in the wet.
  6. RF aeffect is lighter than 675 slx, uses Shimano BB and can be had for under $100 if you are savvy. Had multiple pair and no complaints. I usually go to PB classifieds if im being cheap or just grab a new works chainring. Otherwise, MRP & AB chainrings have been good to me.
  7. Seems like one way to deal with our bloated scooter population is to hold the individuals signing off on all these permits accountable, and remove them from public service. Looks like Austin has granted over 10k licenses and from what i have heard, is over 5x what other comparable cities are issuing. Makes me wonder if someones palm is getting greased. https://austintexas.gov/docklessmobility
  8. No kidding. We kept referring to it as Stabilene when there. Sucks about the gates as it seems only denial or brute force is the only effective method for stopping some people. Donated in the past with earmark for BC. I'll get back on that
  9. I got talked into going on a work trip with the wife last week and stayed in abilene. Discovered beforehand they had some trails to ride and figured i'd drag the bike along and put some miles in while she was in her meetings. The area is fenced with a locked gate that you have to contact the LBS and pay $10 before they'll give you the combo. When i called two days before, they said its currently raining and wont be dry by the time im there and wasn't allowing any entry. https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/5673873/buck-creek-trail I know this type of system probably isn't an option on multi-use places like BC but seems like slaughter creek preserve has figured out a way to keep (most) people off the trail when its wet. I'd be down to chip in a few bucks to get some sort of control on the damage being inflicted.
  10. Holy shit dude! You mentioned the crash but never knew you were coming off this too. Damn, you've been through a bit. Glad you've weathered the storm and FWIW, I'm hoping to be as lean as you when I hit 60. Any heart issue is scary AF. All the men on my moms side died by mid-50s. I'm 45 and according to my bloodwork, exams ETC, in really good health. However, that arterial blockage is whats been on my mind, particularly after seeing Mark Weir almost die. https://www.bicycling.com/health-nutrition/a25337675/mark-weir-dodges-widowmaker-heart-attack/
  11. Tough to say whats fun for everyone. IMHO yes, hauling @ss down a mountain is an adrenaline rush thats tough to beat and probably my favorite. Little to none of that exists here, so I'll settle for the usual switchback/ledge/switchback/ledge/ ledge /ledge /ledge monotony thats available. AFA unsanctioned, seems like most of all the available "public land" is in some sort of nasty floodplain that cant be developed, so most dont notice if someone is digging until its too late. In reality, working with land owners to develop private land into MTB destinations is the only option here.
  12. let air out of the tires. Ive put fatbikes on my standard rack by doing this
  13. okay, i think i'm in on this. I'll shoot you a text friday
  14. I was a fairly talented skateboarder in my youth and was comfortable just bailing and landing on my feet. Being clipped in was counterintuitive to this previous muscle memory and i needed to retrain myself to ride clipped in and attached to the bike. For me, I go back and forth to keep myself fresh and not too comfortable with one thing or the next. If im trying to learn something new, im learning, having to adapt/respond, and thats good for someone my age.
  15. There is no difference in power. It's completely subjective, in our heads and thats good enough for me. Do you like science?
  16. Gawd d@mn i forgot how strong this track was. Ah the 90s.....its was our 60s
  17. they'll be perfect for getting you used to being clipped in.
  18. I bounce back and forth from flats (DMR Vaults & 5ten Mi6 compound) and shimano XT spds. I mainly used the SPDs on my old cross bike as no matter what i did, it was the only way to keep my feet on the pedals when bombing that thing. I started with standard spd cleats at lowest tension and switched to multi-release and had to crank the tension to keep my feet from coming out when sticking a knee out during cornering and bunnyhops ETC. In my experience, the standard cleats at low tension were easier to manage than the multi release ones. Finally, the flats and spds all have their pros and cons but as a whole there really is no overall performance difference between the two. Its in our heads.
  19. No, i wouldn't wish that on anyone. Not even god Really? Take a look at your reputation score and think again. Speaking of numbers. Ill make the assertion that if you were half as smart/enlightened as you pretend to be, you wouldnt be some dude in his 40s, living in an apartment, with a 15 y/o bike he cant afford to fix or posting about memberships youll never buy. The fact that you're some dude, in his 40s living in an apartment doesn't matter as i'm sure theres a lot of you out there. In your case, you are, and will always be cancer to anything you're involved with. P.S. Do your neighbors know you're using their wifi?
  20. Meh...... You have no money You have no ambition You contribute nothing but cancer to the forums You are not wanted here Take all that energy and apply it to finding a job that affords you to do more than daydream.
  21. All she has to do to prove us wrong is spend some money. itll never happen
