  1. https://youtu.be/IuUDRU9-HRk This one keeps popping up in my YouTube list. He gets lumped into the flannel shirt wearing, staring at their shoes while they sung whiny grunge crowd. He really did have much better range than most gave him credit for. Much better than the Prince version IMO. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. Saw a tiny rattler no bigger than a garter snake right by the turnoff to the tennis center last Saturday. Weird thing, it was tucked up against a dead pigeon right on the edge of the concrete. No way it could eat the pigeon. It wasn’t as fat as my thumb. It was gone on our way back so didn’t get a pic. [emoji853] Saw a 3 footer in almost the same exact spot a few years earlier. Guess they like to hunt in the field there. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. I was down in San Marcos yesterday and drove Hunter Rd from the outlet malls to TX State for the first time in a decade. Going S to N it’s now got a nice wide shoulder all the way ‘til where your route hops East a block near downtown. I’ve ridden S of FM 150 in Kyle a ton. Old stagecoach is a little 2 lane rd. Only concern is people driving to 5 mi dam from in SM. Time of day on a weekend could be a factor now that schools out. Post Rd into SM isn’t too bad and thru downtown to Hunter is pretty low speed and they’re used to students on bikes. I haven’t ridden that stretch from the concrete plant in Buda to Plum Creek/FM 150 in years. Don’t know if someone else has done that recently. IIRC, it wasn’t horrible but the trucks can choke the crap out of you by the plant. Don’t know if anyone else has better internet Kung Fu than I do at finding old maps, but the early Wurstrides used to leave TXPWD HQ on the east side off Burleson and stayed east of 35 til around the outlet malls. All 2010/2011 maps I found roughly go your route. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. I saw a dude at SXSW with the same do and outfit! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. I'm wanting to find someone with one of the new Wahoo Element Roam's that just came out. Supposed to download trails from Strava & MTB Project. So in theory should be better at on trail guidance y'all seem to think Garmin's lack. MTB project has been spot on for a couple of WC-like rat nests I rode last fall. Battery life & digging out a phone are my only issue on sticking to that. Otherwise they've seem pretty overpriced for mostly tracking local riding stats that strava does for free!
  6. I'm addicted to the Adaptive Cruise Control on my Ridgeline. I do 7+ hour drives a few times a year to visit my family which takes me thru PITA Houston traffic, just did 3.5 each way to the beach last weekend. It really does reduce the fatigue to just sit back and let it do its thing. The lane keeper will steer a good 5ish degrees but does that annoying beep at you to steer thing too. 🙂 The only negative to the Honda sensing suite is it shuts off at 20 mph. Useless in stop-n-go
  7. And some places in town, like the parking garage at my office, offer free recharge stations to tenants. That makes it seem fairly affordable for a lot nicer and bigger car than a Civic. I see a lot more manu's electric vehicles than I ever knew were available sucking up the free juice. There's a decent looking Volvo SUV I see plugged in occasionally. Wonder how it stacks up against Tesla.
  8. Spitting distance from Big Bear! if the suspension & drivetrain is in decent shape that's pretty cheap for a 120 f/r bike. I'd definitely expect to spend money on maybe rings or cassette on 4 yr old bike. He's going to want something REAL mountain capable in that area. I'd think a lower end hardtail would be fairly discouraging.
  9. One of his last attempts he snapped off the carbon steerer on a cobble section and biffed it in a ditch Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. Well I guess it was about time for a new helmet anyway. [emoji849] Couple of nice dings, one cracked all the way thru. Better than on my noggin! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  11. One of the pie in the sky plans for CAMPO (i.e. the toll road folks) was to use toll excess $$$ to buy the rail corridor that runs down it’s namesake MOPAC and repurpose it. Don’t see that happening any time soon. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  12. There’s a couple in TX, but not close by. There’s one at Mineral Wells SP and another up at Caprock Canyon. I agree we need more rail trails! We used to ride the Tammany Trace on the North Shore of Lake Ponchatrain when the trails were too wet. Nice asphalt surface. Went right by the Abita brewery and the brew pub. [emoji4] Also rode a 40ish mi section of the Mickelson trail in SD. That one’s 100+ natural surface thru the black hills. I rode the segment that goes by the Crazy Horse monument. Beautiful Country. There was nobody out there, wish I had had time to do the whole thing thru the tunnels. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. Thanks! I’ve heard there’s great stuff in the cascades, had no clue about Olympic. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. Going to be staying with friends on the west side of Puget Sound / Bremerton area later this summer and might be able to squeak in a ride or two. They don't ride so I've never usually get in rides when I'm there. Didn't know what was better heading west to Olympic NF or east of the sound. What have you ridden? Probably something under 2 hours since I'll be solo. Anybody rented a decent bike there so I don't have to spend $200 for one or two rides?
  15. 10th anniversary of the loss of the singlespeedster. [emoji17] “Always ride” Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. It’s hot and it’s wet, which is nice when you wit a lady, not when you in the jungle~Roosevelt Lee Roosevelt Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. 80’s college roadie days flashback. A friend used to buy bricks of paraffin wax in the baking aisle. Had 2 pots on a hot plate, one for dirty chain, one for clean chain. Heard of some old friends that now do the crock pot. One said they throw graphite in the wax. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. And with the fam the switch to ala carte on sides made it over priced for the quality and service. We’d stopped going a while back. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  19. Karma...they just revoked Tommy’s killers probation. 10 years in pound me in the ass prison. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  20. Need to pair that with one on Dewayne's Eye Patch Rides! 🧐

  22. Have you been stealth training in your garage so you can fake fatigue and smoke everyone on the next group ride? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
