  1. 100% situation dependent on the trail pitch where you meet, who can afford space to yield in that moment, and who wants to. If I am approaching a rider and she/ he veers off the trail to let me pass before I have the chance to do the same, I just pass and say something pleasant. If I notice the other rider first, I give them space. It's a give and take dynamic. On some days, I end up not stopping for anyone. On others, I end up stopping to yield ROW to everyone.

  2. Mostly depends on who yells "STRAVA!" first.

  3. My ride Kit is a suit and tie, and carry a book with me. People usually go the opposite direction.

  4. Got a Spank Oozy 395+ wheelset. Well timed as I kept popping spokes on my old Duroc's.

  7. Thanks for awesome time today was good to get out on the bike it’s been a couple weeks. Would definitely like to do it again sometime when I have a bit more time. Was really good though and cool to see the new stuff I haven’t seen. I think the church trails are better with a group than solo. JMO.

  8. Park at ATX Bikes. They are on edge of Circle C Metro Park. There are four SATN trails that end at their parking lot. There are 20 miles of trails that you can ride from ATX Bikes and never cross a street. Very hard to get lost because it is a relatively narrow area. The trails mostly run east and west. If you go too far north or south, you come to a road. Be sure to go under the Escarpment bridge and the Mopac bridge to access all of the trails. There is only about 5 miles of (fun and flowy) trail between Mopac and Escarpment so you'll want more than that.

  9. Good starting point is Circle C Metro Park or ATX Bikes. There's a few miles of trail in Circle C alone. If you head West through Circle C, you can ride to the boundary fence for Slaughter Creek Nature Preserve. The only entrance to SCNP is on 1826, but there is a trail along 1826 from Slaughter Lane to SH45. You can ride trails along the Creek to the east, go under MOPAC in several locations, and ride trails between the Veloway and Bowie High School.

  10. Looking to explore this weekend, SATN newb, where is a good starting point, only looking to get in about 10 miles. Coming from up north my thought was to park at Slaughter Creek and go out from there. Is this a good point to start from or am I doing it wrong?

  13. Yosmithy - Paul did a lot of work for the Austin MTB community. He was a great person who will be sorely missed. I hope to make the ride but my schedule does look promising.

  14. Shower passed thru Brushy this morning. Trails are rideable (including Peddlers) but the biggest problems are the rocks, roots and leaves which are very slick. I’d recommend not riding until this afternoon or tomorrow when things aren’t as sketchy. Unless you like sketchy, then go for it.

  15. Mr. June Bug had partial knee replacement (the inside half) on Aug 1 and was really sorted out and on the bike after about two months or so. The physicians assistant gave numerous warnings about hitting it too hard too early and the realistic possibility of sustaining an injury in a fall and having to redo the surgery, based on her personal experience with hard-headed roadies and mountain bikers, but all was well this time around. Dr. Jake Manuel, St David's Center for Hip and Knee Replacement My sense is that they have a very good protocol in place to prevent infection; Mr. June Bug had no problems with infection this time around.
