  1. It's better if you capture your seat on the picture to get a reference. I'll post mine up. I move them around depending on what I'm doing. For endurance rides I point them up more. For playing around I have them a bit flatter, but it depends on how my hands are feeling. If I point them up too high, the outside heel of my hand gets irritated. I'll ride around with a single 4mm Allen wrench for quick on-the-fly adjustments.
  2. This is a good read: https://www.outsideonline.com/2397605/william-brown-rattlesnakes
  3. I've got my Ergons pointed up like yours. Makes a huge difference on long races. I get the ones with the bar ends. It is nice to change positions sometimes.
  4. I never reported back regarding whether my more XC geometry SS was faster than my XC FS bike. I rode it again not able to complete a lap due to construction at the time, but I did notice what I think was the difference maker: tires. My SS has a softer compound with similar size side lugs compared to my FS bike. So I may put a new front tire on my FS for Saturday if I find the time.
  5. Does anyone know if they have a volunteer FD?
  6. LOL! Not the most popular neighbor at the yearly picnic I bet. Oopsie! This right here: In general, I think it's BS for the city to say you won't pay taxes but you will get no services in unincorporated areas. The reality is that EMS and AFD will respond where needed and when needed.
  7. I found my old Austin Cycling Kyle ride and loaded it to RidewithGPS. We started from Mozart's. https://ridewithgps.com/trips/35882859
  8. My pest control guy lives down south and was telling me about the new paved path along SH45, says it's pretty nice. Cody, we need to do a path finding adventure ride down south.
  9. I rode in my neighborhood and it was awesome. I'd even say a bit chilly going downhill. Better than a trainer ride!
  10. Here is the shorter version of day 2: https://www.strava.com/routes/19516761
  11. OK one of my ride mates on the TdC sent me the day 1. I know you're asking for what is essentially day 2 (I'm waiting on it). https://www.strava.com/routes/19516328
  12. Of course 2nd week in a row I plan on riding R&I, load my bike, and the rain comes.
  13. those numbers make no sense. I thought maybe they were in seconds, but the numbers are too large for them to be in seconds. What equipment is this location from?
  14. You won the internet today in my book.
  15. no precipitation detected yet but it looks ominous:
  16. Yes, the eastern route is what we took for Tour de Cure. I'll try to dig it up from my archives.
  17. Wow! That looks like quite severe graining plus a lot of pickup. I cannot imagine what it's like to get into the marbles on a motorcycle.
  18. Thanks June Bug! I was looking whether that was the case, or whether it was remnants from the cretaceous period. While researching, I ran into this which some may find interesting/useful. I learned some things: https://www.cengage.com/custom/regional_geology.bak/data/Texas.pdf
  19. I was going to point you to the Bike Austin Kyle ride, but it looks like they no longer do it. I wonder if that says something about the route? I know that even a few years ago. OSR didn't seem the safest road to take. I did the Tour de Cure a few years back from San Antonio to Austin, but it was a lot more circuitous route. I bet some of the south folks will post with more recent info. I feel more comfortable out of the city. IMO the suburban FM/RM are the worst.
  20. I used to never ride on the drops, until after a bike fit they swapped out the bars and stem for me. Now I ride on the drops all the time, on the flats, climbing, descending.
  21. My example...I have 9spd and 10spd stuff I wasn't using. Shoot, I have that whole BMC Fourstroke03 that I need to get to you. I wasn't doing anything with it, and the resale on it is crap...but my son was riding his Specialized Hardrock (30lbs) well but he's pretty skinny. So I figured I'll take parts from everywheree and lighten up his bike. I had a 680mm carbon bar, too many stems, The LX crankset with e-thirteen bashguard from the BMC, the 9spd rear from the BMC, but my problem was the BMC's rear hub was shot. So I looked at all my spokes and rims, I had a Hope rear hub, and I couldn't find the right combination to work. I ended up having to order a new rim (try finding a rim brake 26" MTB tubeless compatible rim these days...pretty narrow selection if any at all). I was an idiot though, I should have taken the front wheel's rim (Stan's ZTR) to build the new rear wheel, and just ordered a new disk-only front rim. Mini-wookie is riding this bike now so I hope she's enjoying it but it still bothers me I had to order that new rear rim and spokes! Edit: That Hardrock did not have a place for a rear disk caliper mount so I had to keep the rear rim brake, but the BMC had a Manitou 7 fork and Shimano hydraulic disk setup. I took 5lbs off that bike!
  22. Speaking of weird wrist angles, if any of you watched the 2019 UCI Track World Championships, you'll have seen Jan-Willem van Schip's riding style. It makes my wrists hurt just looking at it again:
  23. You can get on your MTB and go do some sprints around your neighborhood, or some hill repeats. Don't give up your hard earned fitness just because you can't ride the trails.
