  1. I'm one of the trail stewards at City Park that spends quite a bit of time trying to address areas where puddles form, especially those that may linger for many days. Quite a bit of progress was made this past winter (and the winter before, and winter before that....) to alleviate several of those lingering puddle areas and also to reestablish proper drainage in other areas out there. The currently known "wet spots" (I can think of about 4 right off the top of my head) seem to drain / dry out dry out fairly quickly, over a day or two. But there will be places that hold water if you head out there right after a good rain event. That has actually always been the case based on my recollection over the past 30 years of riding there. The main difference with City Park and all the other trails further out is I don't come back all sticky muddy. The soil out there handles water pretty well, and I find that I don't take much home with me. Even though you can ride there in the wet, its best to just give it a day or two to dry out a bit. That's what I've always done. đź‘Ť

  2. Got my second pfizer shot Saturday. Woke up Sunday slightly nauseous but it went away after a couple hours. Later in the event I was super tired and went to bed early.

  3. Got my first shot in Marble Falls since I really didn't mind making that trip at the time, but didn't feel like going back there for my second shot. Oddly, BS&W wouldn't let me schedule my second shot at a different location; so I just canceled my appointment and got the second shot at CVS without any problem. Seems CVS and Randalls are the only providers I could find who were willing to administer the second shot when they didn't administer the first. Anyway, glad to be done with it and hopefully things will be smoother for the next pandemic.

  4. Drones are cool. Bikes are cool too, and especially bikes in Moab.

  5. Sadly, I cannot fit a bottle in my frame so the single bottle Dakine is going on the shelf for the summer. This ghetto two bottle hiking thing will have to work..

  7. Honestly, 2 administrations ago we actually spent a lot of time looking at situations like this and setting up plans. Then the last administration literally threw those plans out. The current administration may be boring and bland to many, but on the execution front, they are all over things. I have confidence that a.) next time will be better and b.) we're gonna find out some really ugly things about how things were handled prior to Jan 20th. All I know now is people are actually optimistic about things. Except in India, but then again Modi was in lock step with the last administration so no surprise there. It's sad how you can tie pandemic response outcomes to the leader and it all tracks fairly closely to how seriously they took things.

  9. Exact same here. Same weight range, same pressure range. I love the inserts and yes, they will get you home with no air. I've done it twice now.

  11. Sounds familiar! This was one of my first track days(TWS2.9 turn 10) and I had some borrowed leathers which didn't fit! Banged my knee up pretty good.

  12. Thanks for the race report, @AntonioGG and the info on road surface conditions. Mr. June Bug is retiring today, and we'll have time now to go exploring and riding during the week. This area hasn't been on my radar until now. I was curious about the Camino Real aspect of the race name, since I have a passing interest in the actual Camino Real route. I checked in with a friend who rode in the event and he confirmed that there is an historical component to the general area of the race route, so extra interesting. 13. I received this unsolicited “market analysis” in the mail today. I just found it funny. Two data points. Nice graph.

  14. Once you run out of water, the price jumps to $150 to get back. This is speculation of course ;) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  16. Years ago we took our bikes on the now discontinued Parks and Wildlife ferry from Port O'Connor over to Matagorda Island. At low tide, it was smooth riding on the beach for miles on hard packed sand. There is a road in the middle of the island paved with crushed shells that was also good for riding and we used it to return to the dock. While riding the shell road, we did spot some whooping cranes by a little pond. No fresh water on the island; you have to bring your own. There was an air base on the island during WW II, so the runways are clearly visible on googlemaps satellite view towards the north end of the island. This is where we were dropped off by the ferry and there was a road across the island to the beach. There's also a lighthouse to check out. General Info: Texas Parks and Wildlife Matagorda Island Wildlife Management Area Port O'Connor Chamber of Commerce: Matagorda Island shuttles Last year, Hammertime Fishing Guides would shuttle you to the island for $75/person with a minimum of two people. Round-trip price?

  17. I've got several small cracks / dents in both of my carbon rims, but this is the one (rear) that is most concerning. The crack runs all the way across the spoke hole to the other side. Shared the pic with DT Swiss, and they believe it is likely due to repeated stresses over a long period of time. The newer version of the XMC 1200 Spline is stronger and wider than this version, which was really more geared for XC. Still, they are offering to replace with either the XMC 1200 (All-mountain) or EXC 1200 (Enduro) rims, the latter of which would run around 220g heavier for the wheelset (1659g vs. 1435g). Thinking I'll stick with the lighter rims but add some tire inserts for extra protection along with the added ride quality benefits mentioned by others. As @Chief mentioned, the inserts might not have helped with this crack but maybe they'll give me some peace of mind.

  20. Yep Cresson in the summer can be brutal but never had any issues getting tire temps up though. Come off the track dunk your head in the cooler throw a wet towel over your head and drink water until the next session then repeat.

  23. If you like jumps, you can easily spend 2 hours at Coler preserve and all the trails are right in one spot. I'd also check out Springdale. There is a lot of trail there and it's super fun. The biggest thing you should be thinking about is what you're going to do when you're late to your next stop.

  24. I took my DJ cruiser and rode from the San Luis pass down to the ship channel and back. Was around 50 miles I think for the whole island ride. The goal was to spend as much time riding by the water as possible and I was pretty successful. The key is making sure you watch the wind conditions. Packed sand is fun to ride on but the thick/loose stuff is no bueno. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  26. I have zero concept for riding in a paceline and taking turns. This is part of the chaotic fun that is gravel riding: half the people on the course are mountain bikers.
