  2. You mean like - Riding the Post enduro ( near Post Tx). Been whipping along the single track thru the brush for a while when I come around a corner and find the 'edge of the world'. Why do I call it the 'edge of the world'? Because about ten feet in front of your front wheel all you can see is the horizon way way WAY off in the distance. At that point there is not time to even get that cold sweat on the back of your neck - much less hit the brakes and not go off the edge. In an instant you are airborne. Now you get that cold sweat. And you look down about a hundred feet (felt like a mile or two) and start preparing for what ever the "landing" may be. Then you notice in the sand at the bottom somebody has written in great BIG 10 foot letters "OH SHIT!". I rode that enduro a couple of years later and people were still talking about OH Shit Hill. (Just for reference - I pushed the front wheel down to match the transition at the bottom of the hill and stayed on the motorcycle. Bottomed the suspension and my legs but rode it out.)

  3. I managed to get out last night before the thunderstorms, and Snail, Rim, Picnic, and 1/4 Notch were all in great shape. There was still some dampness though from the light rains earlier in the day; so I'm thinking with the downpour from last night we are going to need at least a full day for things to dry out. I'll probably go out tomorrow afternoon / evening to scout things out. On another note, I'm sure glad this latest storm brought in some cooler, crisper air. Riding last night was a stark reminder of how horrid our warm, moist air can be, and summer is now looming large. These next 4-5 weeks will probably be our last window for truly enjoyable riding.

  4. Remind them that Dubya loves mountain biking. See if that helps.

  5. We would walk motorcycle motocross tracks before we rode the first lap. The first lap was generally slow. Only after several laps would we pick up the pace. I can't say that would have prevented your crash. We crashed a lot even after walking and 'slow riding' the track. Back then there was a thing called "enduro" races where the rules were you were not allowed to see the course before you rode it. The point was everyone had to 'read' the trail at the pace you were riding. If you crashed because you misread the trail - it was your fault. Always. Since the course was about a hundred miles - NOBODY could "memorize the course". Even those that consider the course to be their local trails - they always threw in some new/changed sections. Besides that - sorry you were injured.

  6. Heart broken and feeling more than a little ill about this. Different circumstances, certainly, but I'm having flashbacks to the Tommy Ketterhagen murder -- I can't let myself call it a death -- and the minimal sentencing. And hitting someone from behind is NOT the same as not observing a 3-ft passing buffer.

  9. I meant to address the rear wheel specifically but I forgot to.. I have always used (on numerous bikes) the single-sided 6mm spacer that would not effect the intended chainline of said frame. but to answer your question - yes, if you did use 3mm spacers on each side of the rear wheel, it would change your chainline by 3mm

  10. ^THIS sorry to hear that you crashed man but its rider responsibility to ride/inspect trails that are not yours and you didnt build as if they are always subject to change. because they are

  11. I know this will not satisfy most people, but a sign at the top of the mountain specifically states to "Be aware of changing conditions on trails and features. Inspect features before use and throughout the day."

  15. Tacoma with camper for the win. However, if you really want a 4 runner, PM me and i can give you the number to some wholesalers who buy/sell them.

  18. Actually, there is a very explicit rule: no motorized vehicles. If the parks are going to open up to them, there needs to be a “rules of engagement” for them. Right now bikes have to yield to pedestrians (and dogs). If one wheels are allowed then I would say they need to yield to bikes. Every engagement I have had has been awkward, they had little ability to react to riders and end up causing both to stop. This makes no sense, almost impossible for a bike and a one wheel to pass each other on UCD of the trail because it is too narrow for them to maintain control (but 2 bikes pass each other all day long.) There was a definite lack of maneuverability on every encounter. We just need some common sense way to all take advantage of the same trails.

  19. What's up with the way they are trying to guard Harden? It's like they are so scared of him going to his left or taking the step-back 3, that they are literally bodying up on his left butt cheek and letting him have free access into the lane. I mean, I'm a Rockets fan, so I say keep doing it, but WTF?

  20. A one wheel rider named Freddie came out and helped the ARR work crew this past Sunday. He grabbed a shovel and spent some time helping us maintain the trail. In fact, he was able to ride that one wheel across the face of the berm and pack it in really nice! He said the goal of his group of riders was to have a one wheel rider on every trail crew. That being said, I talked to him about the concerns that the mountain bike community have about ANY trail user group modifying the trail surface to suit their unique approach to enjoying the trail at the expense of the other trail users. It's the same reason we don't create big trail features without B lines that are great fun to ride but the hikers can't negotiate. He got it. They are looking for smoother trails without rocks the are fun to ride. Point 6 is their idea of heaven while something like Deception would be a nightmare. I have no problems with these guys enjoying nature and the trails that we all love so much. The more advocates that we have using these trails in a responsible way gives us all more power to keep them protected and accessible.

  21. I can vouch for both front and rear boost adapter kits (I actually recommended this to austinbike) that they work fantastic. as long as you arent loosing the spacer(s) you'll never really be able to tell the difference, apart from having to re-dish the rear wheel (if you get the one-sided 6mm spacer for the 142 to 148mm conversion).

  22. All of this happens because we have people digging and people advocating. It builds a community and then these things spring up because there is evidence that if they build it people will come. Public facing things like ARR, Freeride 512, RPR, RHR, Brushy Creek, etc all signal to potential developers that money can be made here. To quote a great song, “nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd”

  23. Looks super long to me. Cool budget build though. Nice to see people breathing some life back into old bikes that may otherwise wind up in a junk pile somewhere.

  25. Actually, I should have a cool GT BMX bike to pay forward in a few days. It's something I would probably break if I were to actually jump it, but would be a great kids bike.
