  1. I don't think they're going away. They're just going to find their segment and live there. Ebikes are not the new 29er, they're the new fat bike.

  2. It took me a few times rolling up to that one before I finally went for it. It’s not as bad as it looks but it took me a few times before I could really match the landing angle. Landing rear wheel first will really snap you forward. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  4. I hit that one for the first time today. It wasn’t pretty but I survived. I looked at it for a while and picked an approach line that looked good, but when I launched over the edge I pushed forward and got my weight back even though I told myself to just go straight off. Anyway my left foot unclipped and I over compensated putting my chest into the bars on the landing. I’m glad no one was around to LOL. I did go back around for another attempt but ended up taking the easier one (my normal line) at the end. While I was looking at the big one from the top some kid came around and took the easy middle line but ate hard just before the trails come together. It made a heck of a “thud” when he hit the dirt but he said he was OK.

  6. That is *EXACTLY* what was intended. The green loop (Great Escape) is intended for everybody. There are still some mildly technical spots but not too technical for a newer or younger rider. I don't feel bad about a new rider walking about 100 feet of a roughly five mile loop. We still need to built three bypasses for the remaining technical climbs on Great Escape. Someday. Hopefully soon.

  7. Nice! I looked at that feature so many times before deciding to just "send it" one day. It definitely looks scarier than it actually is, but the key is staying loose and absorbing the compression a bit with your legs on the landing. I think alarms went off in my head as I approached the edge for at least the first 10-15 times of hitting that feature. It's definitely a mental challenge. The left drop on gum drop actually scares me the most now because it's basically a huck to flat and it's a pretty hard hit (at least on my 150/130 travel bike).

  8. Batteries aren't the issue, charging is. When they are charged improperly they become unstable.

  9. Just rode a couple of hours and only ran into one other biker on Deception (quite a few joggers though). Had to pass quite a few folks on Peddler's but that didn't take away from the enjoyment in the slightest. The continuous improvements on Peddler's never cease to amaze me. Felt so good to be back out on the trail after a 5-week absence.

  11. Prices for the whole drivetrain are just slightly more than replacing a SRAM or Shimano cassette!

  14. Stop making a straw man! I feel bullied! "fizzle out" is subjective. By that, I mean that I don't believe EVERY single company that is making a e-mtb over the next few years is going to continue to make and sell them at the same rate long term. Interest will surge and then level out at some point. (Like fat bikes.) Maybe that's not the same thing as "fizzle out," but you get the idea.

  15. Have you tried IF? I find not eating for 16 hours is way easier than anything else. I love food so I will not put those limits on myself. Start doing 1hr rides in the morning with just a black coffee. Take it easy for a few rides and build up to it. If you're doing high intensity workouts, then you'll need carbs before and during to maximize your workout gains.

  16. HEB has a pretty good protein bread that another cyclist told me about that is available at the Tech Ridge and Lakeway locations. It seems that I can maintain my current weight without effort, if I want to drop to better power to weight ratio I have to do Keto. I did keto a year ago for a few months and dropped 10=15 lbs easily. I've worked on portion control and there is an effort/ROI that doesn't seem worth it to me. Currently working myself into the mental space to go Keto again. Post ride local beer is a real sacrifice. Those that Keto, what do you do pre ride? If I eat a calorie dense breakfast- example McDonald's Bagel Egg and Cheese or pancakes - I can ride for hours with a an hourly gel and a shake every 2 hours. When I go light on my pre ride meal, I bonk at the 90 min mark and no amount of nutrition fixes the hazy-lazy feeling.

  17. I checked the map and thought it was the north side, but you guys could be right. But it's on the end of Picnic closest to the 183. Not the basket drop area.

  18. It's the first drop traveling eastward on what is upper picnic, picnicX right next to the H&B. The bigger one that's about 5'.

  19. I'm a little unclear too. Original Post said north end of Picnic, but the part closest to 183A would be the southwest end I believe. Also those drops closest to 183A have metal railing along the BCRT behind them, and in the picture it looks like wooden railing behind the drop. The northern most end of Picnic would be the series of drops along Upper Picnic, which I believe is where this pic is from - correct?

  20. Hero Dirt and Zero People/Poop bags. Feels like you are truly out in the middle of nowhere at times. I give it 2 wheels up! Park look cleaned up and new camping spots and signs. The coveted Spot #9 is now #39 if you want to reserve some heaven. Main trail is now named The Great Escape and all the side trails are now named instead of A-E. Get some but don't tell too many people. Still one unnamed loop closest to the river but there are blank signposts ready for the stickers.

  23. Anyone have a favorite feature at Brushy? Mine has to be the left drop at the beginning of the north end of picnic. It’s not the most difficult drop, but is exciting because you enter pointing down, drop for a few feet and then land going downhill which just shoots you down the trail. Makes me smile every time.

  24. The alternate line, should be a different trail. The penalty for not being good enough is walking parts of it. If you can't walk it, then you are in THE WRONG PLACE. Find a trail that matches your abilities. There is nothing wrong with admitting that you're in over your head. There is something wrong with trying to make other people conform to YOUR standards.

  25. This is the worst though. He makes Mr The Cat Lady looks like Moses on high. When will the mods weed this guy out? I'm ready to run piano wire all over SATN right now but I'm pretty sure the only two things he ever rides are a keyboard and donkey dicks. Fn training bra bike bastard. Whenever I'm about to run someone off the road for driving like a jerk, or ready to punch a baby in the face on a plane for screaming I stop and think how much worse Riding Again is and calm the fuck down. And the worst thing is watch him come on here and give a line by line rebuttal to my posts like he likes to, like a living insult to all the fn Barneys in the world. Truly puts the C.U.N.T. in community. SMGDMFH.

  26. Sugar... Fricking sugar. It's a killer. Started using monk fruit as a substitute... It's helped. Also, if you want to eat bread try Dave's Thin Slice... Also helpful. And for sure, "...thin slice..." is just smart.

  28. Courage Adams. Up-rail to hard 540. (Most people learn to spin out if a grind by rotating away from the rail. Courage spins into the rail -"hard", which makes it clearing his rear tire over it 10x harder.) Wtf?

  29. Technically, it is less dense. It expands as it freezes but retains the same mass. This is why ice floats. What you're looking for is a nice double IPA.

  30. Food is a real struggle for a lot of people. You can kick drugs, you can kick smoking, but you can't kick food. Modifying behavior is extremely difficult if you aren't ready, and dedicated. Eating healthy is a lifestyle.

  31. IF is very powerful. If I needed to lose weight I would be all over that. We eat dinner early and I eat a late breakfast (2 meals a day most of the time) so I typically have a 16-hour fast every day. My wife has done 2 and 3 day fasts. Also try a “fat fast” - basically only eat bacon, avocados and macadamia nuts. The fat will hold you and keep you from getting hungry. Basically carbs make you hungry. If you are hungry between meals you need to eat more in your meals, primarily fat and protein, in order to be satiated.

  32. I lost 40lbs 10 years ago basically doing something similar but different. For me nutrient timing was key. I ate pretty much what I wanted for lunch, and always one of 3 things for breakfast. For dinner I ate veggies and protein, no starches. For example, a massive salad with plenty of fats (seeds, nuts, avocado, cheese) and a protein (tune, steak, salmon). I have tried low/no carb but it's just too difficult for me. What I find way easier is fasting. I do IF every so often but definitely cut down on snacks and after dinner anything especially (my weakness). I find it easy to fast even 24 hours as long as I'm not doing any big volume ride. Recently I read a very interesting book. Nutrient Timing: The Future of Sports Nutrition. The emphasis is on the benefits for training, but it's still very interesting to me and it reinforced some of my good habits, and pointed out some of my mistakes. One of the things it recommends is to get carbs while training or for recovery, and that the timing is key.
