  1. so far, this thread is disappointing me. have we suddenly become civilized or something? what happened to the practice of "pick a pedal and be a dick about it to everyone who does not confirm your subjective tastes" mentality?

  2. For what it's worth, I went the first ride without any issues, but also didn't need to dab. So I hope you're right!

  6. Finally got serious about the manual thing. A while back I built a manual machine, but only used it once and then ignored it for 6 months. Dusted it off the other day and was able to get (and keep) the front wheel up for an extended period of time. My plan is to keep working on the trainer until I'm feeling confident and then take it to a grassy field somewhere to see if it transfers to the real world. (I'm guessing it won't.) ek_manual.3gpp

  7. I have more holes in my shins from bmx yrs than trying to start my neighbors YZ250 in flops as a teen

  8. my shins already look like hamburger from years of whacking them on BMX. after a few years of that, you gain an uncanny ability to swing them out of the way. it's pretty rare that I cut myself any more, but I should consider shin guards. recommendations?

  9. I’ve had the 3 burner version of this for 17 years or so. I very quickly replaced the triangle thingies and the grill with stainless versions (well worth it). My main problem is a missing screen allowing spiders to build nests in the pipes. These things are solid and Webber has really good long term support so hopefully someone picks this up.

  10. My orange seal personal story is a puncture failing to seal and an orange stain on my garage floor from some spillage.

  11. Do you still have this? I’m in the market for a new Weber genesis, but may be interested in scooping this one up, spending $100 and getting some more life out of it.

  13. I never mountain biked with toe cages. Thousands of miles on roads though. I can't even imagine mountain biking with them. 😲

  14. I actually learned to clip in (I'm giving up on using "clipless." Kids today don't even know what toe clips were!) by starting on campus pedals. Flats on one side, clips on the other. As I came to something technical, "Pretty good chance I'll fall trying this," I would unclip and rotate to the flat side. Of course the clips are what helps get through the techy stuff, and I knew that, even then. But that contra thinking, playing it safe, helped build my confidence and allowed me to ease into the clipped in world. I know this is not a popular route to take but it worked for me. After I was pretty much 100% staying clipped in I bought new pedals to move on from that downside of the campus pedals. That's having to rotate them and find the side you want.

  15. I used to do the same thing when I rode clipless, and inevitably, it would be the opposite foot that I should have released. I don't ride clipless often, but when I do ride clipless, I ride Crank Bros.

  16. This Orange Seal story has the feeling of an online review where the package arrived damaged, so the reviewer gives the product 1 star and flames the product/company, but the real fault is with the delivery company. It doesn't seem like he would maliciously lie about one of the two wheels having a tube. He probably just forgot he hadn't set them both up tubeless. It doesn't seem like any of your disdain for Orange Seal comes from actual use of the product. Only a bad experience with someone affiliated with the product (not even selling that product to you) who could have made an honest mistake.

  21. It's a world of predatory capitalism based solely on extraction. Like a parasite. They will go where they can extract the most wealth and resources, and then move on to the next place that will pull their pants down for them. Lube up, I suggest starting with two fingers. Also, getting sick of the whole "electric cars are going to save us" cult. One doesn't need to travel any further than the western US to see the damage from mining and the extraction and processing of heavy metals is having on our environment. There are brand new neighborhoods in salt lake built on mining tailings where no gardens are allowed. On a global scale these mines are in 3rd world hotspots and are unsafe for the citizens and industry workers. I'm fine with them coming to Austin and raising the value of my home 300k so I can GTFO. Don't fool yourself into thinking there's any nobility with these autistic tyrants. Rant/off

  22. There is an easier way to address this problem: accountability. If someone in APD shoots and kills an unarmed person, the police union pension picks up the tab, not the taxpayers. I am guessing after the second shooting we'd see some serious changes because when someone messes with your pension, suddenly shit gets real. Let's face it, it's a tough job and it is not getting easier, but how much did Austin pay out in legal settlements over the last 10 years that could have been focused on addressing some of these shortcomings? The other piece of accountability is in regards to homelessness. We spend tens of millions, if not hundreds of millions, combined, on addressing this issue. If this were a business you'd have the CEO asking for a full audit. They'd take the full basket of dollars and figure out what is working and apply more to those areas as well as figure out what is not working and stop spending dollars there. This is not happening. People tell us that we are not being humane to the homeless in our community but the reality is that we are, but the dollars are not being allocated in a way that really helps. There are too many programs and too little accountability so we end up with poor effectiveness. Also, a third thing, you damn kids need to stay off my lawn.
