  1. Borrowed from a Facebook page. The first sign is the original. The rest of them were designed, printed, and installed just to troll the first:

  2. Unfortunately on Twitter I have a limited character count to work with so had to cut it short.... Here’s the full post from Ronan... !TRAIL CLOSURE! The drop, next to the creek, a few turns before the end of the trail is temporarily closed. You'll have to use the bypass for a few days. I've been receiving an increasing number of reports of people going off the edge of the trail after the drop and either falling or nearly falling into the creek, with one rider "Deb" taken out on a stretcher. To improve safety, the trail is going to be realigned after the drop to improve the runout distance before the trail turns left back up the hill. This should stop people going off the trail. I'll also be adding a signpost clearly marking the feature and the bypass around it. ....and from this day forward this feature will be known as "Deb's Drop" (she said it's ok).

  4. HUGE SpaceX fan, and all things Elon actually. Disappointed when it scrubbed yesterday, but my wife and I saw the live feed today. Damned exciting stuff. cargo Dragon made it home from the ISS today also. Not much longer and CREW Dragon will be flying. Exciting times for sure.

  7. Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 19. That shall be the Enchilada Buffet. There has been some recent discussion as to the route - let it be known that the Elders have conferred, and have dictated that the current route is THE route. Perhaps in the future, the route shall be added to, but the EB shall be the EB, and the route shall never be lessened. So get used to some Thumper pre-rides with Cody, people. The week following The Enchilada Buffet is the Real Ale Ride, and the week following that Austin is hosting Singlespeed USA - so if the weather decides to fuck us over, the EB will be rain dated to January. That is all.

  8. Has anyone heard of the what3words app? The article linked below recounts its effective use in England to find lost hikers, but not sure if it has or will have any traction yet in the US, although there's no reason why it shouldn't. This is from Interesting Engineering: This Smartphone App Can Save Your Life with Just 3 Words Of note: I like the concept because I process words and not numbers, but I'm not clear on how this is more effective than GPS location with a smart phone.

  11. There is nice all size drops at brushy. I think that is a beginner loop and should stay friendly for beginners. Just not to be selfish because I personally like the drop

  12. I am not the trail steward, but they try to market Peddlers Pass as a beginner level trail. There has been several accidents at this spot, with one being severe over the last couple of months. They aren't doing away with the drop, just improving the run out to make it a bit safer.

  15. I was hoping it was where all we MTBers got a badge and could give out tickets. But alas, I don't think so. I think it's for pet owners, out with their badged up pets, gently admonishing other pet owners when they are seen doing something wrong. Not a bad idea actually. I'm sure 75% of the training will be how to be non-confrontational when doing the admonishment.

  16. I am ok with drops but did it too fast once and almost ended in the creek 😂. My wife also went otb there once but she tried to follow my line after being warned so it was all on her. I do think it is a little dangerous compared to the rest of the loop. I am glad it can be kept amd made safer

  18. Finally broke down and joined a gym. My wife has been going to 24 Hour Fitness for years. If you shop at Costco, a 2 year membership is $429. If you're in town 50 weeks a year, that's less than $5 a week for all the weight machines, treadmills, yoga classes, etc you can handle. Surely most of us spend more than that on bike parts. When it 100°+ outside, I don't ride at all or ride rarely. Who am I fooling? Go find an intimidating machine: push that thing, pull that bar. Run and go nowhere like an idiot for 30 minutes. Go lay on a mat for 30 minutes doing Russian twists until you collapse. Stop being a puss. Your ability to ride a bike will be better in the end and you might live longer.

  19. The SATN SOCIAL Fall, 2019. A celebration of the South Austin Trail Network. Saturday, October 26th. 8:00 am - 5:00 pm-ish ATX BIKES parking lot, Slaughter Lane @ Beckett Sponsored by ATX BIKES and GIANT Bicycles. What is it? It is not a race, it's just a big social ride. There are three routes that all start and return to the ATX Bikes' parking lot. The north is 18 miles, the east is 15, the south is 23. Do all three for a 56 mile ride. This ride will be 90% dirt. The rest is a little road, a little sidewalk. The routing is trying to use as much of the SATN that is not in a gray area. A gray area is one where the landowner is tolerating limited use of it so far, but it's not officially been sanctioned. This ride avoids all of those. ATX Bikes and Giant Bicycles will be providing food, beer, and some prizes. Prizes will be in a drawing. Tickets will be earned by completing a route. So if you only do one route you will get some tickets. Do all three, get more. Do bonus mileage, get even more. Giant Bicycles will be bringing their demo trailer. Oh yes, this event is an actual thing! Get there early to pay your registration, sign your waiver, pay your donation to charity, get your bike number, and get your start time assigned. KIDDING! There will be none of that. This is all free and it's all for fun. It's a SOCIAL ride! It's a social ride that will educate people about the South Austin Trail Network and to make it a more legitimate thing. The more it is recognized the more of it that can be sanctioned and appreciated by the landowners. "Hey! We have a cool thing here." Perhaps one day we will be able to have a ride that uses all 90 miles of the SATN. So mark your calendars and tell your buds about it. Look for routes to be posted soon so you can practice and get them down. Recruit a group to ride with on the day of The SATN Social too. Just pick photogenic people though because you will be taking pictures of yourselves in the far reaches of the SATN as proof that you rode it all.
