I planned to use this tool once and it didn't even make it that far. however, the fact that I broke the tool doing this might be an indication that the job's fate was sealed from the start. I should leave it alone and just get used to getting my bike un-stuck with this tool instead: Yes, that's on my bike now. I need a name for it. how about "The Compromise." I only know one person who could convince me that, instead of buying a bicycle that fits me and suits my needs, I should zip tie an old toothbrush to my bike instead.4 points

Unique...put on your headphones for this one. Filmed at Philmont Scout Ranch. Lots of good memories there. https://vimeo.com/4443878424 points

Of all the bloated budget that APD has, I don’t see this as the most impactful place to want to cut or “defund” them. I thought we liked bikes here. Let’s look elsewhere in the budget…like maybe…armored military vehicles and UAVs? The term is “defund” not “un-fund” the police. Just because something is affiliated with APD, that doesn’t mean we need to throw it out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk4 points

Think of the poor horses now that those fat cops won't have bikes.4 points

There is a LOT of confusion about this for a LOT of people. Shuffling money, and responsibilities around is not a bad thing. Keep what works, and fix (or shitcan) what doesn't.3 points

That brings up a good question: When riding through fire and hot coals are you guys weighting your front wheel or back wheel? I just don't feel like I am getting traction cornering through a burning forest.3 points

This reminds me... NBR PSA: there's a recall on HF jack-stands. And a recall of the replacement jack-stands as well.3 points

No, I believe that people are upset with Mellow Johnny's ownership for kowtowing to a handful of kneejerk ninny employees. It's hard for me to believe though. It's such a strange line in the sand for them to draw. Has anyone verified that any of this is true? I know I'm reading about it on the internet, so I KNOW it's true, but it would be interesting to see if this is really happening.3 points

Businesses should be able to reserve the right to refuse service for whatever reason they see fit. It's their business. If they don't want to sell bikes to APD, they shouldn't. Just like if someone didn't wanna bake a cake for someone, they shouldn't. If profit drops off, they'll have to live with it. If I get refused service somewhere, I'll gladly take my money elsewhere. Just my 2 cents.3 points

where were all these anti-maskers when the patriot act was being signed again and again? oh yeah, i forgot it's easier to punch down, and mock people who wear masks than to acknowledge the actual tyranny that has been taking place in the name of defense contracts........er i mean "national security" for decades. we are devo3 points

I think some of the military style police stuff is way overkill, but we seem to be forgetting the reason many big city Swat teams have these and were funded for these. Remember the tons of mass shooting this Country has been having. Las Vegas ring a bell. Let's not worry about defunding these department s and maybe spend some money on switching the culture of the Policing in America. Get people in place that don't look the other way when a cop is acting in detrimental manner to citizens they serve. Not have a union that is willing to fight for dirty cops, ect.1 point

Jesus certainly stirred the pot and was executed by the state for it. If you're interested, I have a thorough rebuttal of that (authoritarian) interpretation of Romans 13. probably not fit for forum consumption though.1 point

to clarify, "shuffling money, and responsibilities around, keep what works, and fix (or shitcan) what doesn't" is exactly what is meant when we say "defund the police." the problem is that everything needs a slogan, and anything more than those three words don't pack much punch. but the link I posted above goes into great detail.1 point

Both the Bible and the Constitution say they have the right to tell the cops to fuck off if they want. If they want to put cash on the line to scold the mall ninja commandos our police have become, bravo.1 point

I think you should go back to the frame modification route. Maybe a harbor freight scissor jack? If that doesn't work, Taiwanese vise grips.1 point

the mud collects on the chainstays. most options involve mounting a scraper right on top of the chainstay where it's going to get sucked in. it's possible, but there's a moving and chain and stuff right here. scraping it at the seat stays might work. I'll think of something!1 point
-
I have to say that I'm a little disappointed. I bet you can find a mounting spot that actively brushes off caked up mud.1 point

A lot of ultra endurance adventure types will actually carry dental floss to remove goopy mud from tight areas.1 point

it's there so I can grab it and dig out the grime that gets stuck between my chainstay and my tire, which has a gap of about 3mm. it does not do anything in that spot, that was just the tidiest place to store it. it's also a good "conversation starter." I've tried different tire sizes and stuff and this is the smallest tire I can stand on the terrain and also the largest tire that can possibly fit.1 point

This is MJ's choice to make. I'm not a regular shopper there, there are other shops closer to me. There is so much stupidity going on right now, this is just more background noise.1 point

as someone who has worked in a bike shop that serviced bikes for the local PD, I can tell you this was not an easy decision. the bikes came in every few months with cracked frames, broken axles, bent seat posts, totally destroyed suspension, bald tires. each job was hundreds of dollars of taxpayer money. when I met some of those officers, it was clear that the individual riding the bike was challenging the manufacturer's weight limit for the bicycle. we had one who cracked the seat tube and bent the seat post at the same time, just pedaling around city street. the bikes often looked like one of Seth's bikes after a week of Angelfire, but just from basically riding sidewalks. I know those bikes get ridden a lot, but there was often clear evidence of abuse of equipment. the bike shop happily accepted the money though because it was good for business. APD's budget is ridiculous. I am surprised they can afford to pay MJs prices for bikes and service, but guess who really pays that bill.1 point

lmao exactly. of course you dont. im really laughing pretty hard right now. hahaha . that was funny1 point

lol I wonder who they will call once one of these tent-castle bums or someone else breaks into their shop and jacks a bunch of bikes.1 point
-
Good for MJs. They are an independent business who can make principaled decisions not to sell equipment that will be abused to a corrupt agency with a bloated budget. I thought Trek stopped selling those cops bikes anyway.1 point

After President Donald Trump threatened to veto the bill, the House of Representatives issued an indefinite postponement of the vote to pass the Senate version of the bill; as of June 2020, the Patriot Act remains expired. According to wiki...... Granted, wiki isn’t the most reliable source of info. But, congrats! You made me look it up!1 point
