  6. That's some of my normal area for afternoon road ridea during the week. My triple B is to ride from courtyard at 360 up to 183 to warm up then work over to Mesa and do repeats on Mesa, far west, and Ladera Norte. One of each then repeat. Road hills will make you far stronger than hours on a mtb. Even just one road hill and one road tempo ride a week will make you a weekend mtb monster.

  7. I saw a rider and a hiker come off of 1/4 Notch and both said it was fine. The biker had no mud on his tires / bike. I checked it out myself and it was rideable but definitely borderline. Whereas normally you'll have 2-3 spots of mud after the trail dries out, there were easily 5-6 muddy spots. I didn't even check Picnic, Mulligan, or Rim, and already knew from HB's post that Peddlers was out. Luckily I ran into a couple of guys that were heading over to Peddlers and I told them it was off limits per the trail steward.

  8. OTOH, in Mojo some of these threads disappeared very quickly from the first page, especially when some people started a bunch of new threads.

  9. Wanted to spread the word about Bastrop Signs as a local source for custom decals and signs. Needed some rim decals ETC for a build and was referred to Matt over at Bastrop where he was able to use the vector file from the manufacturer and his color pantone to create a perfect match to the frame. Something that has been very difficult to do when using companies from out of state or in Europe. The good quality and price is on par with what i've purchased from stikrd and slik, but the customer service and satisfaction of dealing with a local, family owned business is something the other guys cant compete with. Give Matt a shout if you're looking for some custom fork, wheel or general purpose decals. https://www.instagram.com/bastropsign https://bastropsigns.com/

  10. Depends on the tire, but muscle or deflating slightly. I can measure the front tire ovals for clarification. Ok, not all is steel, but the front/rear tire trays/holders are steel. The "yoke" that holds the lower front tire oval is plastic, and the rear tire clamp is plastic. But, the main structure is steel vs. alum. You can definitely mod to your heart's content. I have moved the J-hook that hooks the top of the tire to another set of holes to allow it to be tall enough for 29ers as well.

  11. I like how much more organized it is than Mojo, but I agree it might be too much. I would be in favor of consolidating a few of them. For example: Ride Calls, Trail Conditions, and Trail Work could be combined into just "Local Trails." All the Austin Ridge Riders subforums could be combined into one. Bikes for sale and Bike components could be combined (but keep non-bike stuff separate). Announcements and Site Feedback could probably be combined too.

  12. As an update to this, I called canyon today about refunding the bike. I was expecting some conflict, but when I called them they said I could get a refund or send it back again and they would give me a carbon frame since I was having trouble with their aluminum ones. Needless to say I'm going to stick with the canyon and get the carbon frame instead od the Whyte, even if I may be a little over biked. Good customer service!

  14. It’s your forum. We’re all moochers at this point so I have no problem with you controlling things as you see fit. this is how I view it. anybody that disagrees with the rules is perfectly free to spend their own money and a lot of riding time setting up their own forum. Thanks for all the hard work Albert. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  16. Trail work tonight instead of riding? I always have a shovel, some rope and a tarp in my car. The shovel might come in handy.

  17. Here’s the deal plain and simple. Don’t want kids addicted to playing games all day? Gotta get off YOUR ass and do things with them. For over 25 years I’ve worked a job that for several months a year I work 50+ hours so I go weeks without getting to spend much time outdoors, but I always steered my free time to taking my daughter outside. I was intentional about what I did because I had kids at almost 40 and saw friends and relatives with mindless gaming zombies with zero social skills that can’t ride a bike, throw a ball, ID poison ivy, etc. Wasn’t gonna happen. First off, I bought a house on a greenbelt with a playground and a 3+ mi hike n bike out my back door. From about a year old I’d load her into a bike trailer and go to the play ground, go feed the ducks at the pond, go to a neighborhood cafe for Sunday breakfast. It was also a way to give the wife a break when I was working a ton and pretty absent. It slowly morphed into her riding her bike with me to do all those things. Yesterday I got home around 6:30 and needed to do a spin to loosen the legs and we hopped on the cruisers and did a lap. Still amazed a h.s. freshman still likes doing a bike ride with dad. She bugged me again about planning a camping trip once I’m passed my deadline. Now I’ve never banned a thing. She’s had her own iPad since about 8 or 9, and is a teen girl who can spend hours on instagram, snapchat, etc. I just never emphasized games. She used to play endlessly on an architecture app that allowed you to decorate w/furniture, change floor plans, etc. She showed me some messaging pool game that’s going around, but it’s not a problem. Another must, there has always been an extracurricular activity. From 4-5 y.o. to middle school she played in a kickball league and tried various sports at the Y. There was never a killer spark at sports, but getting out and playing with a group, a different group than school, is important to social skills IMO. She still chats with girls she played on a team with 5 years ago. She moved on to drill team in middle school, and now is in the sports med program in HS, so not a ton of time for games, but it’s not really a passion. The point. You want kids to not be stuck in one thing, do multiple things with them. It can’t be a knee jerk reaction to not liking a new thing. It’s a 17+ year commitment to throwing as many new things at them to help them find their way. They call it parenting. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  18. Unfortunately I will be out of town that weekend, same thing that happened last year. I did do the Veggie Enchilada Buffet last weekend, but that's obviously no substitute for the whole thing. Maybe I'll try to do the entire EB beforehand. I just need to know the route, and especially the route through the Greenbelt. ..Al

  20. I'm not confident in three laps yet, but that's what I'm signed up for! Unfortunately, I have very little time for training over the next month. At least it should, maybe, perhaps be cooler!

  23. On another forum I run we have a "Free Games and Stuff" forum, where people can start a thread when they want to get rid of some items (usually for the cost of shipping, since it's not a "local" forum). When someone gets rid of the items, they can update the post that it's gone and it can be locked so it doesn't ride back up. Thread title will contain the name of the item (or type of items) being given away. There's a 'Marketplace' group here (with the "Bikes for Sale" and "Bike Components" forums), and we could do a similar thing here. I don't want to put every thread in "Mountain Biking". ..Al
