  1. Added an 3-paddle LED light in the work area of my garage. Some before and after pics. Bright as shit now, the harsher light will make it easier for the old man eyes to see what I am doing. $25 on amazon. The first two pics are the "after", the other two are the "before."

  2. A new route has been added to Bikepacking.com called the Sam Houston Restaurant Tour. It's an easy relatively short weekend route on bladed dirt roads, with an option for a restaurant meal at each end of the "figure 8" loops. It's east of Huntsville, west of Lake Livingston and south of Hwy 190. Looks like a good shakedown ride for checking out bike packing. Sam Houston Restaurant Tour

  4. The only assumption here is your assumption that I'm approaching diet and diabetes blindly. I've worked in the medical field for 40 years with countless doctors and other health experts who thrive on continuous education, and I have personally studied all of this stuff relentlessly. You choose a diet of ~50g carbs per day and I'm choosing one that is closer to 90g made up of high-fiber fruits/vegetables, grains, legumes, and nuts. Why is there even an argument here? As stated, it worked wonders in the past; so why do you feel the need to challenge what is known to work for somebody? BTW I'm not sure what anecdotal incidents you're hanging your claims on, but I assure you that in the hospitals I've worked for over the years, a diabetic would not be getting orange juice or other high-glycemic foods. You may just be assuming too much there.

  5. I've noticed! Hopefully this will mark a return to form. And I'll stick to the "Barry can't lead rides at R&I" policy. This is a recovery ride for me anyway. Okay, I'll circle back to the lot at 4:45.

  8. Check with us if any of you are FR512 members. We're a Banshee Ambassador and have access to the build kits, forks, etc. as well if you want to build a partial/complete. However, any parts MUST ship with a frame, according to their policy.

  9. Technically, it is less dense. It expands as it freezes but retains the same mass. This is why ice floats. What you're looking for is a nice double IPA.

  10. Yes, it does get worse with higher counts. Basically those counts are "particles in the air" so the higher the count, the worse it should be for you. In simple terms (not a doctor) your body is pretty immune to cedar and it takes time for most to develop symptoms of cedar fever. If you just moved here a few years ago the cedar has probably not had as much impact and it becomes all about thresholds. But if you have been here for a long time you get worn down to a nub by cedar. My first 18 or so years, never had an issue. The last 5 years have been hell. But I would not be surprised to see that there are multiple things giving you problems. Yesterday's cedar number was off the charts, the second highest in 25 years. BUT it really comes down to exposure.

  12. Actually the formula prescribed by my endocrinologist worked wonders in 2008 and I suspect it will work again to bring my A1c down. What's keeping my glucose up is a diet that scales too high on the glycemic index coupled with a pancreas and liver that don't effectively handle the associated spikes in blood sugar. The low-carb snacks in between meals helps keep things steady for me, which has been key in preventing the hypoglycemic crashes that tend to follow those spikes. I'm not a believer in extreme dieting or fasting. For me what has worked to maintain a healthy weight, balanced blood sugar, and energy to spare is simply eating mostly good foods in moderation and staying very active.

  13. I don't ride that trail much because it's above my pay grade. But I rode/walked it today. Since I don't go on it much I couldn't recognize any changes. But those two sections on the south end are NOT any easier. Actually the maturation of the trail from weather and wear seems to have made it even more difficult. Go for it Capt. Ahab!

  14. IF is very powerful. If I needed to lose weight I would be all over that. We eat dinner early and I eat a late breakfast (2 meals a day most of the time) so I typically have a 16-hour fast every day. My wife has done 2 and 3 day fasts. Also try a “fat fast” - basically only eat bacon, avocados and macadamia nuts. The fat will hold you and keep you from getting hungry. Basically carbs make you hungry. If you are hungry between meals you need to eat more in your meals, primarily fat and protein, in order to be satiated.

  15. These are bikes I built up from frames — or frames plus parts — for people last year. Most of the parts I used I bought, but I also got some things donated, which I and the persons who got the bikes truly appreciate. Building older bikes is something I enjoy doing, and it mixes two of my favorite pastimes... Finding old things to restore and using tools to do the restoration. And I also like when the folks who get the bikes are really happy with what they've gotten. And it hopefully gets people outside more often. BTW... "...Walmart..." is just riffing off of what someone on the forum said... With the exception of the Huffy cruiser, which is from Walmart, but I think had been given a beautiful dark burgundy paint job. A trade off/barter deal... Needed to refit for petite female rider... Some parts changes... Servicing... $435 Yellowbike frame find... Complete restoration... 1 x 9 drive... $125 Garage find... Was going to sidewalk for garbage pick up... Needed some parts restoration/servicing... $125. Semi-restoration... Lots of chrome cleaning... Parts servicing... $85. Thrift shop find... Complete servicing... Truly a great very unique original vintage find... $125. Another thrift shop find... Some servicing... $85. Frame/fork bought... Parts bought and cleaned up... Complete servicing... 1 x 9 drive upgrade... $300.

  17. One of the reasons I prefer Peddlers over 1/4 is this...unless someone is going the wrong way on PP, you don't have to worry about smoking someone head on. The other reason is because 1/4 crushes me and my rigid SS every single time lol.

  18. Fexofenadine works for me and I start taking it 2 to 3 weeks before the cedar bombs go off. I also get a few cedar shots every year from running into those bastards while riding.
