  1. As an owner of carbon wheels I can say they are absolutely worth it, at least for me in my case. I've used tons aluminum rims over the years and I don't think I've had a wheelset last me more than 1000 miles without dinging, bending, cracking or otherwise generally going FUBAR. For years my biggest maintenance and down-time issue has been replacing or rebuilding aluminum wheels. But now I've had nearly 6500 miles of cenTX rockiness on my SC Reserve 37s with little to no issue. All I've had to do is replace a few spokes. And if something does happen, I have that unlimited lifetime warranty, and a backup set of aluminum wheels to get me though for a few days. Same with the bike. I've never had an aluminum frame last more than a few thousand miles... until the SC 5010. So I don't see me going back to aluminum for a primary bike. But if an easily recyclable alternative comes along with the same benefits at a competitive price? Sure, I'm not an intentional asshole.

  2. Tripel B is always a good beer. I really like Flyin' Monks also.

  3. Dt Swiss are the benchmark aluminum wheels for me. I have a set of XM 481's that have been on three bikes and two sets of hubs. I also have a set of Nextie carbon that have been excellent so far. As far as saving weight carbon is negligible, the difference in weight between the carbon and aluminum is 186 grams for the set, not a game changer. Where I think the carbon excels is in lateral stiffness the carbon wheels track better and stay on line through the chunky stuff, the aluminum has a bit of lateral flex that is noticeable in the rough stuff. Just my two cents worth.

  5. My favorite is the Philosophizer, but my HEB stopped carrying it. It used to be that they always had Flyin' Monks, Philosophizer, Naked Nun, and Scratching Hippo.

  6. All the work on the new flow trail including machine and hand work will be totally completed before the volunteer work day. We may need help with trimming limbs and clearing downed trees. However ARR will direct that portion.

  7. Same here. My DT Swiss XMC 1200s have been bulletproof. One flat and one spoke replacement in 4 years of rowdy riding, mostly on Deception. I'd probably seek out a cheaper carbon alternative if I ever have to replace them, but definitely wouldn't go back to aluminum.

  9. Left hand does excellent milk stouts. Despite the color it’s a very light beer with a relatively low ABV and its silk smooth. I recommend. Picked it up at HEB Lakeline.

  10. With our last remodel I had a ton of network cables run throughout the house and then had them pulled to various locations, with an On-Q panel put in my office so that I could tie them all together easily. What I got was a shitty electrician that ran the cables and just popped jacks on the end. Half of the runs were not done properly meaning I could only get 100Mb/s, not gigabit. I fixed those, but never really took the time to do the cabling right in the panel, which is how I ended up with this: This is data, phone (POTS, not VoIP) and even cable TV/cable modem - don't ask me, I think they screwed up in putting that in there. Anyway, I got a punchdown block and actually did it right. Everything is organized and there is about 20' of cable length that was cut off. The 4 cables on the right are actually for runs with nothing connected right now, just left enough length that if I needed to pull it to a punchdown I'd have plenty of room. The handy tip for anyone attempting this is measure twice, cut once. Also, put a piece of tape over the electrical outlet so that if you clip off some cable ends you won't end up with a spare bit landing in your electrical outlet. Also, Power over Ethernet is a very cool feature. I love running a switch without a wall wart.

  15. Those SATN deer have built some awesome trail. Not every trail needs berms and jumps and I find that SATN has plenty of flow if you just look for it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  16. No. Ride with people who know to learn. Otherwise - guess.

  17. In regards to the SATN, and considering the land ownership that most of it is on, it's hard to argue to the "powers that be" that a deer built that wood jump. I think it sends up red flags. And Owen, welcome to the SATN. Have you joined us on a Tuesday for Crank and Drank yet?

  19. X2 on the 481s DT Swiss seems to have the strongest aluminum hoops for their weight. Had a couple sets of DT with no issues. My buddy who's basically the seth buckgnar of utah has destroyed every hoop he's owned but DT. Stopped buying stans after the MK3 stuff came out.

  20. My preference for strength and weight would be DT XM 481. WTB Asym are a good lower cost option but a bit heavier. I have the 481 on my FS and the Asym on the SS and both have been rock solid unlike the WTB i19 that I turned into a Taco hitting a berm. That one hurt a bit.

  21. Another fun trip! From the rides to the wedding, Boquillas and the hot springs on my birthday, and from Starlight to the Pedraza House, I had a stellar time. I can't count how many times I've been in February but remember my first trip in 1998.

  23. Playing bass all afternoon and started rediscovering Stereophonics. Many many many overseas flights with vodka tonics and Stereophonics.... And they also did one of the best covers, hats off to the old guys who know the real one without googling and not the young guys who think that was the theme song for "The Office" (the better UK version.)

  25. Here's the complete ride report from Rich. Probably the best Spider testimonial I've seen to date, especially for somebody who earns their living mountain biking in Bentonville. He's a ripper too which makes the vid really entertaining to watch.
