  1. This video has a great explanation on how to fix your issue. His videos in general are really good.

  2. Here's another really good video for solving this problem. The key here is not to actually place your front wheel on top of the object but to instead glance off the top of it to propel you up and over while unweighting the back of the bike. It's called the punch. The timing can be tricky but it's a great move.

  3. Just got back from sessioning DD. I was able to utilize “the punch“ to clean every step up but some I had to try a few times to get it. Now just need to work on consistency. The only one I was having a hard time cleaning was the step up that has the loose climb just before it. Hard to get enough speed to punch up. Ended up having to brute force it. IMG_1849.MOV

  4. Yeah, I prefer plastic pallets, but wood pallets are more commonplace, and make better bonfires.

  5. Yeah, amongst a bunch of grown men who put on diaper shorts and play around in the dirt you sure got you a sophistificated pallet.😂

  7. I wasn't 100% sure I understood the OP's question. I'm thinking of one specific step-up on 1/4 on which you get front then rear wheel up but immediately you have another step, or rather your front wheel is in a dimple. For lack of a better description, I use what looks like what trials riders do here. I basically almost come to a stop but I do one last full bike push to keep going forward. I've been riding MTB for 25 years and Brushy for probably more than 5 years but I still haven't gotten the nerve to ride down sponge bob. Regarding how much harder DD is than 1/4, it has more climbing and some visually-more-challenging spots, but as I've been learning in the last year or so and @circuitbreaker has been encouraging me try more stuff with some coaching, I've found that most of the intimidation is from how something looks. To me Sponge Bob looks intimidating. I'll ride it at some point when I'm feeling confident and I'm sure I'll think "what was the big deal" but I'm totally cool with walking something (I practice CX dismount here if I want to do a decent time on 1/4 E2W) rather than get injured. I'm trying to think of where there are difficult hairpins on 1/4. I can't think of any that are more difficult than some of the tight turns on DD.

  8. Same here. For me once I got hardware to hold my ankle together, I am a lot less brave when there are rocks and rock gaps and such where I envision not making it up, putting my foot down on the wrong spot and breaking it again. I still had one fantabulous ride about 2 months ago where I sessioned a lot of stuff on DD that I'd been walking. Some definitely deserved my respect and caution, but most stuff was fairly tame, and some stuff was tame if you can hold the right line, and scary if you can't.

  9. Hey nothing wrong with that - and trust me you'll have DD down in no time if you have the physicality to run 1/4 end-to-end in 16 min. I used to pack a full lunch and take 3 hours to go end-to-end when I first started riding Deception (1/4 Notch and DD combined). Now I can go end-to-end in well under an hour in either direction, and then turn around and go back in the opposite direction. Like others have stated, I thought many of the features were un-rideable when I first saw them. There are a couple of spots I generally don't even attempt anymore for fear of stalling on the incline and then falling backwards with nothing to stop me (like getting up Jammer). Probably more mental than anything, but at 61 I don't want to rely on brut strength that I just don't have.

  19. It’s only a flesh wound! I decided to try 1/4 Notch the first day I got clipless pedals. Ended up not clipping out in time and fell over on a cactus. That was fun.

  20. Riding 1/4 this afternoon. Was pushing it to the max as there was a guy behind me who started at the same time and was actually keeping up. In the first twisty tree covered section i rounded one of the tight turns and clipped my shoulder on a tree. Managed to keep the bike up and was rewarded with a new PR of 16 mins flat. Worth it I guess. Shoulder will not be happy tomorrow. 🤷‍♂️

  29. Many many years ago @Scorpionwoman (Claire) and I would put on 'free clinics' at City Park. She would take the more beginner group and I'd take the intermediate group. I think she'd work on basics and I primarily worked on drops and step ups. Around the same time one of my (bike shop) customers offered to pay me to do a mini-group lesson (w/3-4ppl) for him and his friends. That spun off into me doing a handful of those across a few years. A few of the guys on this forum attended. At the time, I'd schemed up another idea of doing an "ATX nemesis" clinic where over the course of a few weeks or so we'd cover tips & tricks to pulling off some of the local challenging spots on our trails (Root Drop, Nando's Elbow, Elephants Butt, Jock Strap, Etc..). But I never got around to it. Same concept cold be done for a 'highlights of Deception" too. If you don't end up finding what you are looking for I wouldn't be against trying to work something out. I'm not riding as much as I was back then, and my schedule is (normally) a little busier, but I did find it fun and rewarding. *NOTE* Claire was doing paid 'beginner clinics' and 1on1 quite a bit back then, so maybe she'll chime in here too.
