  1. Got a bunch of trash. Most of the poop bags were by the creek crossing. The thing I wasn't prepared for was the amount of dog poop trail side not in bags. Super gross, I suppose I couldn't see it while I was going fast. There are limits to my altruism.

  2. Today would be an excellent day to take a video!

  3. Looking forward to another round of videos showing how everyone hits a feature. It was fun to see things through @Morris's eyes last time :). I've got a line through the big G-Out that works sometimes W-E, but I'd like to get better. E-W I'm pretty solid.

  4. So I'm no mtb coach... but for me ...The main goal of pushing into the sharp g out is to compress the fork and keep it compressed as you come up the other side which reduces the shock forces on. If you lean back and go into g out unweighted the fork will violently compress once it hits the opposing wall and rebound with very little control because you aren't weighting or over the bars. So pump INTO the g out and treat that particular one like you are doing a rock step up but without the hard pull on bars. Pump into G and then stand up and pedal out at top. It's better to stay centered over your BB Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk

  5. It being there doesn't bother me near as much as knowing some asshole decided it was OK to just leave it there.

  6. It's interesting that different riders approach features differently with the same goals and feel in mind. Words "neutral" and "weightlessness" are also in my head for this particular feature, but I seem to be doing it differently. On the way down, I approach it like any other down slope feature meaning I am centered from a balance perspective, but my body/weight is further back relative to the bike. I basically maintain this position (perhaps shifting my weight even slightly further back) at the bottom and on the way up, which means I don't carry much weight on the fork at that point. I do stand-up at the top/end of the sequence, though like everyone else.

  7. in case anyone was interested, I asked COA about their list of battery dropoff locations and they responded: "The locations listed on our website are for dropping off all types of batteries, with the exception of car batteries or others of similar sizes. Each of those locations agreed to accept batteries from residents that were used in everyday household applications. On the City’s end, none of those sites are dedicated to only accepting certain types." I am pleasantly surprised. If you have a bunch of batteries, I'd check with your closest library to see if you can hand them to a staff member, since the library buildings are closed to the public but still processing holds.

  8. I was going to ask for a video! A search returned a bunch of stuff on a trail called g-out, and some rolls to flat but nothing like what we have at Brushy.

  9. Yeah but it was probably better described by @First Blood. More of a pumping motion as you transition from going down to going up. Definitely don't feel like I'm rocking my weight back. Maybe what I'm trying to describe is a sensation of weightlessness when you are able to pump through the transition and carry that momentum up the other side while essentially standing upright. I'm going to video myself going through there so that I can see exactly what I'm doing. All I know is that a couple of years ago it just clicked for me that I need to ride that scary G-out with the same natural movements that I was using on the rest of the smoother G-outs on AoC and Rim.

  10. (in my best British accent)... "And now for something completely different"... Gah, that was so friggin awesome... that one chick with the thighs on the 4cyl 4stroke was my favorite though.

  11. Just ride about 6" to the side of the wet line on the first roller and it's not that bad. About halfway down roller you will end up in the middle of the algea, but it's much easier to control the bike from that point. I ride this about once a week and its had water\algae lately. Just too much fun to pass up. Love the rollers and hammering through the ditch. Cant upload my pic here, but I uploaded to my ride from last month. https://strava.app.link/98kz3C7rMdb

  13. Yeah big g-outs with U shape are cool. I do love Bob Ross. But some of the ones on Rim and AoC, I totally identified with your comment about being glad you still have your teeth. It was good to read someone else shares that sense after surviving one. You must also love the big g-outs at Thumper. Those are serious, with some added challenge from rock outcroppings at the top. Rollercoaster = HawkJaw? I really loved it.

  16. Just saw and heard a big branch go down on my neighbor's house. I think things are going to be pretty bad. Move cars, be prepared for power outages, etc. The trails will of course need some work once this crap passes too. ☹️

  17. I have one electric heli, 600 size. The other 7 are nitro. One GMP Cricket from '81 that is flyable, and the others are 60-90 size.

  18. I realized too late to offer input that the city land being developed as a soccer stadium off Braker would have been put to good use as a mega, super developed dog park. It could have paid for itself by selling passes. I've noted before that population density is increasing at warp speed in north Austin. Big multi-story apartment complexes are springing up off Kramer, Braker and Burnet, on Tech Ridge, along North Lamar and many residents are dog owners. Walnut Creek is the closest park unless they want to go to Balcones District Park.

  19. Thanks for this info! I'll call the Milwood Library since I do my curbside pickups there. The Northern Walnut Creek trail is great for bike errands to that library! I was at Batteries Plus on Burnet just north of Anderson Lane last week and could potentially drop off there. The "plus" part is light bulbs and they had the exact LED version of the big bulbs I needed for the can lights in the garage that I couldn't find anywhere else.

  21. Boots on alloy cranks? Nah. They’re pretty stout feeling and my kid isn’t shredding gnar big enough to get remotely close to damaging these. Crank boots are reserved for maintaining that lustrous carbon finish. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  22. Wheels built. Damn the garage was cold last night. Tonight the hand me down Hope's get a full rebuild, hose shorten, and bleed. After that everything is ready for the Boy to help with assembly/build. For those running the SR Zeron cranks, are you running boots, if so, what size fits? Google has failed me.

  23. Haha. I've discovered that the key with that one (in either direction) is to ride it just like any other G-out and carry a decent amount of speed going in. It's intimidating at first putting your weight forward while nosediving in, but that along with a little push on the bars at the bottom to unweight the front going up seems to work really well. I find that the center line going E-W works best. I used to take a left swooping line going W-E until I followed @WLemke through using a line on the right, which is much smoother. Given the steepness of the opposing side though, you really need enough speed to keep from stalling and falling over backwards.

  24. Despite the pre-lunch drizzle I thought I’d chance a ride today as I already had my gear on. The Convict Hill/Davis/Bambi area was all dry on the trails, maybe one or two vaguely damp rocks on Rudolph, but nothing was even that slick as of 1pm-ish. If you have the time it’s worth sneaking out before the vortex of despair arrives, assuming it doesn’t start hosing down.

  25. I suspect I know where SN's Roller Coaster is, and that is indeed a ton of fun. I have no idea what "Xtal Falls' Pleasure Loop" is, but I would like to find out. And Bob Ross is really well done, much prefer that to the original Up and Over trail. That last g-out on Attack of the Clones, though, is special. 😄

  26. Yeah that's it. And indeed that one tight rocky g-out is a bit scary. Every time I make it through it I'm thankful that I still have my teeth.

  27. Technically yes if you ride W-E. 🙂 I rode SN yesterday and didn't see the hole but I started at Red Horn/Peddlers and didn't ride to Katy Ln. I wonder if this hole is right around the cliff area? I ask because I was riding the trail across the creek from the cliff, and you can see the limestone cliff is concave in that area. I think the trail definitely needs to move away b/c at some point that's going to collapse.

  29. http://www.austintexas.gov/page/battery-drop-locations I have been picking up hold items from my local library for a few months now. You can still put items on hold and pick them up outside at some locations. at the Hampton branch, you can park your car in a numbered spot and call them, or call from the front door. it could not hurt to call and ask if they'll take your batteries the same way. I just asked COA to clarify if these locations accept all sorts of batteries or if any of them are limited to rechargeables. agreed on the remoteness of the RRC. very few items are worth the time and fuel spent driving to that place. I wish they'd make a few more drop off spots or work with waste haulers to take more to MRFs. on that note, I see a lot of things in my neighbors' blue bins on recycling pickup day. not that I go around peaking in them, but if the lid is open or styrofoam, plastic bags, and cartons are sticking out the top, I can tell that people don't read. they just wish-cycle and hope the magic recycling fairies will figure out what to do with all their non-recyclable milk cartons.
