  1. Nice try Sierra Club.

  2. On a serious note, it was a new experience on a bike. If you can call it that. I get one ride a week to get my exercise in and after the ride Tuesday I felt like I wasted my ride. I wasn't the slightest bit winded. Pedaling the bike was less about pedaling and more of just giving it throttle. The bike has the typical bosch system which has 4 power levels. I used the 2nd lowest setting most of the night which was probably too much in most places. I kicked it up to Turbo only on the zero tech stuff. There were a couple times, like Bambi, I had to pedal hard to keep the pace because the system has a 20mph governor. Any speed above that and you're on your own. I also somehow accidentally hit the power off button on E-spank and had to slog that heavy thing for a while on my own. I didn't want to stop the group just so I could turn the power back on. It was a chore to get through the twisty stuff. Maybe part was getting used to a different handling bike, wide bars, different tires, etc... I was slower in the twisty stuff on this bike compared to my normal bike. Going up technical rock climbs was a breeze. During the ride I felt that the extra momentum you carry with this bike necessitates more robust riding gear. If your toe/foot his a rock or stump while pedaling it's going to be an ouchy. I've heard the argument that someone would want to put their slower significant other on an Ebike so they could keep up easier. Perhaps on the road, but I wouldn't want my wife to ride this bike on a trail. It certainly seems to have a higher potential for injury. It was a fun experience. For me, I'd rather ride my normal bike. I still have this at the shop until the ORbea rep comes to get it so if anyone wants to ride it tomorrow swing by in the morning and grab it!

  5. On that note, electronics recycling is in high demand. Just about every manufacturer wants your batteries and chips back. That's no reason to expect electronics to be cheap and disposable, but there's always a better way to dispose of something when it's no longer useful. https://www.tceq.texas.gov/p2/recycle/electronics/manufacturer-list.html

  6. Doh! I lied. I paid $49, not $38. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MU3K0I1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 When I went to Amazn to get the link to my purchase it was now showing $55. I think it was showing $38 in the search and I did not pay attention when I put it in my cart. As always, I'm not always the sharpest knife in the drawer. It looks like Wheel Mfg. does have a press without drifts for ~$40. The reason it shows $62 is tax and shipping (wasn't prime). Still better than the Park price (no drifts, no shipping), but not the killer deal...

  7. Rolled up to the new spot on snail yesterday and apparently I found my limit. No chance.

  8. I killed it at Crank and Drank the other night. No one could hang on the Drip Drop ascent. Then we hit the Davis climb and those Nica kids exploded in my wake!

  9. With our last remodel I had a ton of network cables run throughout the house and then had them pulled to various locations, with an On-Q panel put in my office so that I could tie them all together easily. What I got was a shitty electrician that ran the cables and just popped jacks on the end. Half of the runs were not done properly meaning I could only get 100Mb/s, not gigabit. I fixed those, but never really took the time to do the cabling right in the panel, which is how I ended up with this: This is data, phone (POTS, not VoIP) and even cable TV/cable modem - don't ask me, I think they screwed up in putting that in there. Anyway, I got a punchdown block and actually did it right. Everything is organized and there is about 20' of cable length that was cut off. The 4 cables on the right are actually for runs with nothing connected right now, just left enough length that if I needed to pull it to a punchdown I'd have plenty of room. The handy tip for anyone attempting this is measure twice, cut once. Also, put a piece of tape over the electrical outlet so that if you clip off some cable ends you won't end up with a spare bit landing in your electrical outlet. Also, Power over Ethernet is a very cool feature. I love running a switch without a wall wart.

  10. X2 on the 481s DT Swiss seems to have the strongest aluminum hoops for their weight. Had a couple sets of DT with no issues. My buddy who's basically the seth buckgnar of utah has destroyed every hoop he's owned but DT. Stopped buying stans after the MK3 stuff came out.

  11. My preference for strength and weight would be DT XM 481. WTB Asym are a good lower cost option but a bit heavier. I have the 481 on my FS and the Asym on the SS and both have been rock solid unlike the WTB i19 that I turned into a Taco hitting a berm. That one hurt a bit.

  12. Another fun trip! From the rides to the wedding, Boquillas and the hot springs on my birthday, and from Starlight to the Pedraza House, I had a stellar time. I can't count how many times I've been in February but remember my first trip in 1998.

  13. I was going to say, I think the thermoplastic is going to be heavier. I've gotten to use thermoplastic printed circuit boards for RF/microwave applications, also with chopped fibers (fiberglass in this case) and they had advantages, but also many disadvantages compared to the usual epoxy pre-preg. What aluminum rims should I look at if I want decent weight, good lateral stiffness? I have ridden on Stan's ZTR 355, Stan's Crest, Stan's flow and none compared to my now fairly old Nox rims.

  16. Inner and outer log loops are close to flow trails. Flow trails have features you can pump and pop, with less tech and peddling. I wouldn't call SATN flow, and I don't think that it needs to be, but I think a few spots could use more 3-dimensionality. I think parts of Phoenix, for instance, could use some fast berms and rollers, and it wouldn't impact the slow techy tree gate stretches people 'round here like. IMBA: "Flow Trails take mountain bikers on a terrain-induced roller coaster experience, with little pedaling and braking necessary. This style of trail typically contains features like banked turns, rolling terrain, various types of jumps, and consistent and predictable surfaces. Conspicuously absent are abrupt corners or unforeseen obstacles."

  17. Technically neither the Peddler or REI had a 44mm headtube reamer/facer. Peddler Cedar Park currently has access to one though, if you talk to the right guy. I'd be careful going to REI downtown, they haven't had a qualified mechanic in a few years.

  18. Just to clarify to everyone, you mean there will be no more additions to that (wonderful) little trail system (for now), not that it is shut down for use. I panicked a bit when I first read your post!

  21. some clarification for everyone. The trail is not open for use yet! we are complete with the BIG machines and the major earth moving, however we still have the smaller machines going on finish work. we are hoping to have it to a point soon for some ride sessions for the folks that come out for the volunteer work day. Anyone is welcome to come look at it and check it out, but until the return line is complete we ask everyone not to ride it yet. ARR will be posting more information soon . In addition we ask everyone to Please stay away from the Travis County Maintenance office and shop, no trails are near or around it and it is not the way out. If you walk the new trail please walk it back up until return line is complete! Thanks

  22. I've been watching this thing evolve over the past couple weeks. It was rideable for a little bit, with the correct line choice it was sort of a double drop, with neither being too big, but still plenty sketchy. Now it's gone full send, lol. It looks like there's some lumber nearby, I'm guessing there's gonna be some sort of wooden roll or landing?
