  1. Rode all of DD and 1/4 Sat and everything was clear except for some remaining carnage on Dare and on Huck Finn. I went back out today and took care of both of those spots, and also cleared a bunch of low-hanging stuff throughout DD. Great weekend to be back out riding!

  4. ATXZJ is spot on. That Fathom 29er looks good IMO for the price (at least for these current times). I'm not sure about the fork though. I was trying to figure out if it's one of the lower-end Suntours or not. Don't rush and get the wrong size bike.

  5. Its a bad time to buy a MTB. If you could increase your budget to $1200-1700 the bikes get MUCH better, wont need as many upgrades, and you could buy new. Direct to consumer brands are offering some good options these days. https://www.marinbikes.com/bikes/use/xc-trail https://www.fezzari.com/wasatch https://www.commencalusa.com/meta-ht-am-origin-sand-2021-c2x31920244 https://vitusbikes.com/collections/mountain-bikes-cross-country/products/vitus-rapide-29-mountain-bike Failing that: Bike farm is a good option for sure. https://austin.craigslist.org/bik/d/austin-2018-specialized-rockhopper-29er/7275209314.html

  6. Bike Farm is not going to sell you any knock-off junk. just stay clear of buying bikes from ebay, ali express, etc. if you're unsure about a brand, see if any reputable bike websites have published reviews of them in the past. if not, steer clear.

  7. Looks like a Civil War hospital. Obviously, I mean that as a compliment. Like, I'd do some opium in that tent.

  8. Hi all, 43 yr old buying my first mountain bike. need help! (I'm good on anything with a board, skateboard, snowboard, skimboard, etc, just new to bikes) At this point I'm just looking to pick up something used, cheap'ish (<$1000) that can hit the trails near my house (Austin TX, Walnut Creek) Anyone here willing to spend a some time on a phone call or emailing to help me narrow down options? There are lots of used bikes listed around me, I'm just not sure where to begin. Ideally, I'd like to start with a 'must have' list to help narrow down the options. This is what I have after a few days of research... -under $1000 -Hard Tail -Derailleur clutch -29 or 27.5 -L/XL frame (I'm 6foot) -1x drivetrain Is there a cutoff year that I should consider? like, if I find a 2001 bike on craigslist, any reason I shouldn't be considering bikes of that age? any suspension features to consider as a must have?

  9. Because of the winter storm pushing the tax deadline back I've been given the green light to do this. Talked to someone with a reserved tent spot already.

  11. Here you go https://www.giant-bicycles.com/us/fathom-29-1-2019 Basically a 21" seat tube on the CL fathom and it also has a dropper. IMHO, you need a pretty long inseam to ride that bike, like minimum 35-36"

  12. A Chumba frame is around $1600. awesome bikes, but probably 5X the author's budget once the parts start adding up!

  13. Yeah, I second Bike Farm. If I were directing someone new to the sport I would point them there, cool people and they understand very complex things in our sport like budget, ability, and need.

  14. We started doing stealth car camping in NY. We would go to Ellicottville NY, ride the trails- park in an abandoned parking lot half a mile from the brewery for post ride dinner -back to the car to sleep on an air mattress in the back of our Jeep with the bikes locked to the rack. The second day of our trips, we would hit up Jakes Rocks Pa. In Texas we started doing a little car camping in the interior of BBRSP. I do a bit of solo car camping- Barry really was hung up on running water for a while. This winter we upgraded to a tent and queen sized air mattress from the full size that we were limited to in the Jeep. Most camp sites have showers so this is a pretty good plan until we upgrade to a 5th wheel.

  15. DAMN!!! You even got the obscure Napoleon Dynamite reference. Now that’s truly impressive. It also begs the question...........did you vote for Pedro?

  16. Yes, it's on that trail, "Fenceline." But the actual "13 Jumps" segment is all between your bottom arrow (the highest point on the trail) and the "m" on "Intermediate Trail." The blue line that goes between the "e" and the "r" of Intermediate is Two Cones Road, a jeep track. After the last jump (actually the one I'm going off in the picture) you can turn left to ride the jeep road for 75 yards and then turn left to go up that black line pictured. That is Cardosa's Climb. I don't know why it is black, it actually is a very easy blue, and blue only because of the climb involved. Turn left on the not pictured short cut back to Fenceline to repeat the jump line. Edited to say, a picture is worth a thousand words: https://www.strava.com/segments/27442820

  18. Sabor Tapatio's Tacos de Birrira (properly termed, I think, Quesabirria Tacos) are glorious. Crunchy. cheesy and savory. Served with consume, you dip the tacos right in to make them even better. I think they are what you've been missing out of your life. And while they are a food truck, and don't have alcohol, they are right next to a Twin Liquors. That's where I scored this excellent Russian Imperial Stout. Just don't go on a Sunday.

  24. Major concerns. Specifically look at the convoluted laws for each state through which you plan to travel. Seriously don't travel through some states with a hand gun not registered in that state. In several states you're better off with an ounce of good than you are a handgun.

  25. Thanks I’m setup for solo trips. I bought a cabin style type tent for when we go out together and looking for accessories to make it more comfortable for her. We’re planning a month long summer trip and want to minimize using Airbnb. Thanks again.

  26. To heck with that...from the outside that looks like a POS. It may have some decent room on the inside but it looks shoddy and junky. Here's my setup from a few months ago. I essentially lived in it off-and-on for a month. Its convertible to a desk type arrangement for work, convertible to a double sleeper for the wife (or a kid), and obviously can house 2 bikes inside WHILE I sleep in the back.

  27. @ Moc and Olddbrider. Thanks very much for the recommendations on trails up here. The boy has had a blast on those trails. Our place is on Ledges off of the Back 40. Little trail from the house to the trail. Saturday when we got into town it rained. I was worried about the trail conditions. Ended up riding from here at the house and about half the Back 40. Trails were nice and no signs of the rain the night before. Shocked after the rain how awesome the trail was. I am riding my SS since the kid has my full squish and it has not been bad at all. Even with the hills and dampness that day. We rode Coler Monday. Again pretty damn cool place. Rolled up on a SS with drop bars and for sure got some looks and comments. But real cool doing Blue trails with the kid. After which we spent the rest of the day at SlaughterPen exploring. Yesterday was a rest day. Today is cold and raining so we went over by Tunnel Vision (Little Sugar) and rode Down Under. Despite the weather it was truly an all weather trail system like they say. We will hit a quick loop around here later on possibly. Anyways have 3 more days left and tons of trails to roll. Thanks much for advice! Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
