Ridenfool
I've been watching Bentonville Trail Porn on the computer at work ALL DAY today. Fortunately the IT department is pretty lenient about this sort of thing. Oh, and ... I-am-the-IT-department Departing tomorrow to spend the holidays riding in Wonderland (AKA Area 51l) and other NWA trails. Ridenfool
Okay, it is raining out there like a cow pissing on a flat rock and I feel I may have had a hand (or foot, as it were) in bringing this on. All I did was order some pedals. This reaction on the part of Murphy/Trail Gods/Mother Nature/whatever seems a little over the top. Especially considering how much prime trail time has been lost to weather this Fall/Winter so far. Just the same, I feel like I should apologize.
Bamwa
I must confess, I'm pretty pissed at RF for getting those pedals and admitting it. Hopefully it's dry by Sat.

Ridenfool
If Pace Bend is rideable on Sunday I might bring them out there to play. (keeping fingers crossed that anything might dry well enough to ride) Edited January 2, 2019 by Ridenfool
JMR
My guilty confession is: I really don’t understand why so many people get bent outta shape about riding wet trails. I know why I don’t. Just a personal preference on my part. But, with so much rain this past year, why get so upset?

But, with so much rain this past year, why get so upset? pretty simple and easy to understand that riding wet trails puts ruts everywhere, fucks up berms, accelerates erosion, makes puddle spots form or get deeper, destroys jump lips and landings, etc etc. so unless you are the person building those trails or owning that land, you are disrespecting others hard work, time, and property. have you never seen people talk about this exact subject before? not trying to be a dick or anything but you should understand Edited January 3, 2019 by Seths Pool

Ridenfool
The damage the accumulated grit from riding in the wet causes to suspension seals, chain, derailleur, dropper, etc. might be reason enough, even for someone who might disrespect the efforts of trail builders without a second thought.

I’ve heard other people talk about this exact thing. I understand about ruts and erosion being a pain in the ass. I guess I never thought about it from a trail builders point of view. And it makes sense. My next guilty confession: I haven’t helped anyone build/repair any trails. Guess I need to fix that...
mack_turtle
"pain in the ass" is an understatement. I don't understand how the damage caused by riding muddy trails is hard to grasp. Spend a few hours trying to fix a trail that was ridden when muddy if it's not automatically plain and obvious to you why that sucks. The Tip
I'm guessing press like Red Bulls "Five top tips for mastering mud" does not help the cause. Or videos of Danny Hart slamming through sludge either. https://www.redbull.com/gb-en/how-to-ride-in-mud-5-essential-mtb-tips

Wet Weather Riding has different connotations in different places. DO NOT RIDE WET TRAILS was an adjustment for me when I moved here. After riding a borderline trail once and helping out on a trail crew a few times I completely understand. Not all soil/dirt/loam/clay is alike.
