  1. There is some great info out there. https://medium.com/@tomaspueyo/coronavirus-act-today-or-people-will-die-f4d3d9cd99ca

  2. I think the big wound on that cedar elm is probably why people feel the need to block that line. I don’t think this is a case of an easier b-line. I’d mentioned in the past about making some armoring for the tree but I never got around to it (doing all the baseboards in my house burned me out on wood work for a few months). Maybe actually doing that would appease those worried about the tree. It needs some rocks/soil on those roots too. No, it wasn’t me in case you were wondering.

  3. I am heading to the hospital today for a pre-check before my surgery next Tuesday. Luckily it is out patient. I'm better off getting it done now ahead of the mess that is on it's way. If you were going into a more invasive surgery that will include time spent in the hospital for recovery I'd totally re-think. Especially anything that will reduce immunity. I'm sure that surgeons are all on top of this and weighing the odds, but you need to have a serious discussion. Niece is home sick in NYC, she thinks she has it. Boyfriend in Long Island is also sick as well. This thing is gonna get a lot worse before it gets better, primarily because we, as a country, have been conditioned for the past 3 years not to trust the media on one side and been continually hammered with daily lies on the other side. Neither side trusts information and we are getting so little of it. If you extrapolate Italy's numbers on our population you get ~50K infected and ~2,500 deaths. But just look at how stupid we are as a people. There are Americans who are getting tested, waiting on results, and still running around in public. The number will explode not because infections are exploding but because testing is increasing. Happy that I will be sequestered at home anyway due to my hernia surgery. No huge concern on the immunity and I only need ~2 hours of recovery time at the hospital.

  4. Went for a walk with the dogs and wife last night. It was kind of weird considering how nice the weather was. Typically on a night like last night we'd see many other people out walking with their kids and dogs. We walked around the neighborhood for about 40 minutes and saw nobody until we were getting back to the house, we saw a father with his dog and kids. I'm thinking being outside is the safest place to be.

  5. To me this takes even greater discipline than staying strict because you have to be keenly aware of what the acceptable "cheat" threshold is. In the past I would allow myself to cheat with anything thinking it was OK and next thing ya know I'm at Shipley's every morning getting a Big Earl and Cinnamon Roll. These days I'm considering a cheat day to be a 10oz Ribeye, baked potato stuffed with cheese and sour cream, and corn on the cob. Not exactly the healthiest combo, but doesn't send me over the edge with sugar the way Tifts Treats or Baskin Robbins does. My weight loss has slowed some over the past couple of weeks. I was losing 2lbs per week and now I'm losing about 1lb per week, still without giving up beer and now back on the bike a couple of times per week. I've gone from around 201 to 184 and plan to drop at least another 5lbs.

  6. I stopped by the HEB at Mopac and Parmer just before 7 this morning. There were massive lines, people with carts stacked up full of food. I just grabbed the last mega pack of Charmin toilet paper and went through the self-checkout lane. I carried my car keys in my knuckles in case someone tried to jump me in the parking lot. if I'm not sick in a week and anyone else needs it I've got toilet paper. 30 bucks a roll.

  7. That's about the most comprehensive article I've read and it mentions all the big points. I live with this stuff every day b/c it's part of my wife's job...I get a full debrief every night. The main point to emphasize IMO is to flatten that curve. I'm most worried about my parents (my mom's a recent breast cancer survivor) and mother in-law and people I know with chronic illness. Let's make sure those hospital beds are free for those that really need it when the time comes.

  8. on the plus side mtb is a great sport to do in this age of coronavirus. 1) sun kills the virus 2) wind disperses the virus 3) sweat kills viruses 4) you are not in close contact with other riders 5) you have to "work" from home Im going to have to stop brazilian jiu jitsu and start mtb again. See you all on the trails.

  14. We're somewhat fortunate to be living were we are geographically, meaning the Austin area. They just announced two presumptive cases in Travis county, a 30 year old woman and a 60 year old man. The woman self quarantined and the man is hospitalized. The man was transferred from another hospital and the woman had just gotten back from Houston. She's going to be more of a concern then the man will. So back to being fortunate, we're in an environment that can allow people to easily work from home and remotely. This thing has been exploding in the denser populations and we're just starting to see potential actual cases thus giving us a little bit more time to prepare and educate ourselves about how to slow down the spread. We are not going to be able to stop this anytime soon, but if we can prevent it from spiking we have a much better chance of coming out the other side good. So basically if you're feeling run down maybe a little warm and have a new dry cough, don't be an alpha asshole and keep going about your life like it's just a cold STAY IN YOUR F@CKING HOUSE! We've become such a selfish society and that's going to be the nail in the coffin if we don't check ourselves and our egos. This has been a public service announcement. Thank you😁

  15. That is awesome. It is really important to just keep a measured downward trajectory. Eventually the curve flattens out, but only losing a pound a month is still 12 pounds a year of loss. 1 pound a week would be 52 pounds a year. I went from around 195 down to 155 where I hover. At my peak (after the typical 2 week Asia trip) I would be as much as 210. Most importantly, with just being low bard and watching what I eat, I can maintain this, and have, for 3 years now.

  19. I bought at 28,000, 27,000, and 26,000 not realizing how bad things would get. Now realizing I could have waited for 21,000. Luckily I have enough liquidity to buy much more now, which I intend to do. It's money that I won't need for hopefully 10-15 years.

  21. Some crazy stuff going on, but is the fear warranted? EVen freakin' Disneyland is closing. My wife's open heart surgery is two weeks from yesterday. I am going to stay away from the gym for now, just in case. Thoughts?

  22. I've been stopping for the past two years to block b-lines at The Puzzler. Almost every time I go, the low b-line is open. But every time I leave it, it's closed. Two weeks ago I spent quite a while gathering extra sticks for the low b-line. Like I said before, because fuck 'em. I imagine they feel the same about me, and probably threw a shit-ton of my sticks between the trees. The thing that I don't understand though--why this particular spot? Why ride the DD with all that entails, but constantly make b-lines around The Puzzler?

  32. An account I follow on IG posted they were trying to fly back to the US and Delta was charging $27,000.00 for a one way business class seat. They said they paid $5000.00 for their tickets. Fuck the airlines and anyone else that chooses to profit in this manner during this pandemic!

  33. Forks older then 2013ish are no longer supported by Fox. There is a guy that will custom machine parts for them and rebuild them though. Let me know if it comes to that. Also, Joe is a hack I wouldn't trust with a Huffy. No nitrogen in forks, just rear shocks. Also, the nitrogen will only benefit riders that are pushing their stuff pretty hard, plain old air is fine for the rest of us. Tim moved to Cycle East. Not sure who CP has doing their stuff now.

  36. Thanks, AB. I checked the PUSH site; for Fox, they only work on Fox 36's from 2015 and newer. Mine is a 32 and may be older. I'll check in with my go-to guy, Joe at Monkey Wrench.

  37. I would go to a local shop. I typically pay ~$100 and get great service and turnaround. If I were a professional racer I might think of sending it out, but I would choose Push over Fox. And I am a Fox fanboy.

  42. Same here. Wife and I are doing nothing besides water or black coffee from 7pm to 11am. kinda sucks at first but not terrible. Starting around 3 years ago, there's no bread, soda, chips, cereal, soda, milk or candy etc in our house. If it's snackable, I'll eat the whole god damned thing so it had to go. We also eat raw fruits and vegetables every day. My 16 y/o wasn't too pleased but shes adapted as she didn't have much of a choice😆 Holidays can be tough as everyone is baking and we just sit around and eat/drink. Booze is our last low hanging fruit so we've dialed that back since we got home from going way, way, too hard on our last MTB trip. FWIW, to anyone trying to change your diet. You gotta give yourself a couple cheat days and just eat whatever TF you want. Denying yourself of any indulgence is a sure fire way to give up.

  43. Have you tried IF? I find not eating for 16 hours is way easier than anything else. I love food so I will not put those limits on myself. Start doing 1hr rides in the morning with just a black coffee. Take it easy for a few rides and build up to it. If you're doing high intensity workouts, then you'll need carbs before and during to maximize your workout gains.

  44. I decided to get back on the bike after a couple year break by going to Spider Mountain today. What a blast! Even if you're not a hardcore weekend rider, there's still plenty of room to grow. I've never downhill ridden before (at least not without having to pedal uphill at some point), so this was the fastest I've been on a trail so far. It was an absolute blast [emoji16] I was a little worried about my entry level bike holding up, but it seems like the new pedals and tires I got last week did the trick. Gloves helped too. I'm not normally a gloves guy, but they were certainly useful on that trail. Sent from my LM-G710VM using Tapatalk

  47. Actually the formula prescribed by my endocrinologist worked wonders in 2008 and I suspect it will work again to bring my A1c down. What's keeping my glucose up is a diet that scales too high on the glycemic index coupled with a pancreas and liver that don't effectively handle the associated spikes in blood sugar. The low-carb snacks in between meals helps keep things steady for me, which has been key in preventing the hypoglycemic crashes that tend to follow those spikes. I'm not a believer in extreme dieting or fasting. For me what has worked to maintain a healthy weight, balanced blood sugar, and energy to spare is simply eating mostly good foods in moderation and staying very active.
