ATXZJ
17 hours ago, Cafeend said: Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday called the rising rate of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations “unacceptable,” but said he has no plans to shut down the state again. Instead, the governor renewed his call on Texans to do their part to stop the spread of the coronavirus. “We must find ways to return to our daily routines as well as finding ways to coexist with COVID-19,” Abbott said in a news conference. “Closing down Texas again will always be the last option.” Saw that What cowards our leaders are. He made the decision to "open tejas for business" and as a result, covid hospitalizations have blown up. This is something he acknowledged over that recorded call but has never been held accountable for because our press is also staffed with cowards. I wonder what leadership we're receiving for our tax dollars when their go-to plan is to do nothing. Just take ownership of the situation for fux sake. Good or bad. Also, they haven't even touched the rainy day fund, and there is more than enough cash reserves in the state to have kept us under restrictions long enough to tamp down the virus like other states have. The only thing he was firm about was how opposed he is to closing down the state. Well, enough people get sick and the state will close down and businesses will fail because consumers will be scared shitless to go anywhere. The circles are getting smaller because of the lifting of restrictions. We've had four people we know within the last week exposed to the virus and have to be tested. One brewery also closed last week because a server was positive. Three of the staff at my kids orthodontist tested positive last week as well. This stopping and starting is gonna be way worse than to have just left it locked down for longer or at a minimum have a plan B to keep businesses afloat and people safe. Nope. Dogsh*t as usual. GFisher
I met a guy from Waco Sunday to sell some MTB shoes. He was probably 50. I put my mask on as I got out of my truck. He was walking up and as he got pretty close he said I guess I should put my mask on. Then he said he had already had COVID so he didn't need to worry about it.

Unfortunately I think that the most infectious thing we have to deal with is "stupid." Definitely a pandemic of that going on.

The Tip
I have a question for the non-mask wearers; why do you hate medical workers? The news is full of health care personnel BEGGING for people to wear masks. They know it will help. And very surprisingly, there is no politically identifying "D" or "R" next to their names.
Chief
People aren't wearing masks because this is all a hoax. You know a hoax that the entire world is in on.
AustinBike
I keep saying, this is a "me" vs. "we" situation. Sadly, if you look across the political spectrum, there are parties that align to me and we. This is like riding on muddy trails. For some it is ok because this is the only day off that they have to ride and they don't worry about the trails because someone else will fix them. Show me one person who is anti-mask that doesn't have a me-first mentality.

Changed it so that we don't throw the baby out with the bath water. I think this is a big problem that the media drives. They try to pigeonhole a certain party along tight ideology. For example, if you believe (know!) that socialism doesn't work then you are obviously a racist/misogynist/religious fanatic. But the muddy trail analogy is very good in regards to selfish mask wearers.

Teamsloan
In that article even Abbot is quoted telling everyone to wear a mask. So, now it’s not politicized. Both sides of the aisle agree on this. There is a “me”, and there is an “us in charge”. I have, and will continue to vote on both sides of the isle, because in the end we are literally voting for the lesser of two evils.

I can’t speak for all non-mask wearers, but I personally don’t hate medical workers. My sister and her daughter both work at a hospital in San Antone. They’re my barometer as to how bad we should freak out. So far, cases have increased. But, the survival rate remains the same. So, there’s that. As far as the we vs. me mentality: from my side of the fence, there’s plenty of people who refuse to wear masks. Maybe the non mask wearers are the we, and you few masked ones are the me. You want everyone (we) to wear a mask to protect you (me). It’s all about how you look at it.

AustinBike
Well it is not final until they put the mask on my face. Honestly, with the way things are going I could see it all going to shit before Tuesday at 5am. And because people can't figure out how to stay safe my wife, with the more invasive surgery, is gonna get screwed in all of this. Yeah, let's prioritize water parks and carnivals over people's health.

TheX
Williamson County has some of the most relaxed rules. People in restaurants, workers with no masks. Large gatherings. Here are the counties stats as of right now. Current Active Cases 891 Currently Hospitalized 23 Recovered 757 Deaths 32 I do all my shopping there, it's been nice to be around sanity. notyal
I've asked this several times now in several ways and have never gotten a clear answer. Anti-maskers, what do you have to gain by not wearing one? Why fight it so hard? Is it purely a politically fueled show of defiance? Are you afraid your fellow anti-maskers will see you and make fun of you? "It's my right to choose." Sure, but why wouldn't you choose to do the thing that prevents death and disease? "Masks aren't really that effective." Really? The vast majority of scientific studies say otherwise. Why have doctors and scientists been wearing them for centuries to prevent infection? "The virus really isn't that bad." That's great news! But...I still don't want it. I don't want you to get it, either. I especially don't want my mom to get it. "This is all being blown out of proportion by the media. Look at the numbers. Other things kill you way more." Ok, great perspective. Now what very simple measures can we do to reduce those numbers even further that wouldn't affect our ability to work or shop or play? (After all, shouldn't the minimum number of deaths be the goal?) How about a thin piece of cloth over our faces when in close quarters with others? Hmm...that does sound like a pretty low bar that we all could easily follow. "I'm blindly following a man who has been wrong and has given misleading information throughout the entire pandemic." Well, I guess I'm glad you didn't try drinking bleach.
mack_turtle
a previous generation rationed coffee, chocolate, meat, rubber, and dozens of other things while thousands of their young men died in Pacific islands and in France and Germany to stop a global threat. some among this generation can't be bothered to stay home and wear a mask when they go to HEB to slow a threat that's killed nearly half a million worldwide in just a few months. what a bunch of entitled crybabies.
