I've started working on the area between the detention pond and Brushy Creek Road on the East side. It was kinda boring imo. The roller/dips/berms (see pics) will add more fun and the trail will align better with the left turn up the hill towards Brushy Creek Road so you'll be able to carry more speed to get up the hill. In the pics the trail looks close to the chain link fence, once the bench cut is done it will be a few feet further away from it.7 points

I'll offer a bit of heresy, I suppose: Don't bother with test rides! Read reviews from riders who test ride for a living, decide what you 'should' like, and pick a bike based on how many boxes it tics off. There are so many variables when test riding - from bike set up to trail conditions to how you feel, etc - that I know I can't really tell how well a bike is suited for me. Hell, when I jack around with my bike's set up, I can go from loving it to meh. And set up can be everything from suspension to cockpit config, etc. Granted, I may be especially sensitive. But then again, if you're not, then it may be impossible to accurately assess a bike, let alone differentiate. Like me, you'll more than likely 'adapt' to the bike you get, once you get it set up optimally for you. Test riding extremes may be worth while - very steep STA or slack HTA, lots or little travel, for example. My last 3 bikes have been bought, ridden, and loved with test rides... YMMV3 points

Couldn't agree more. It's a bicycle, not a house. The only bikes I bought/demo'd at an lbs was in 2012......20+ bikes ago. They're always going to feel odd or different when on a demo. It takes weeks to adjust to a new bike, but you adjust to it. Bikes are so good now, it's really hard to go wrong. As above, find what ticks the most boxes and click "buy".2 points

You raise a really good point I think. If being able to ride the bike ahead of purchasing is an absolute requirement, you're probably eliminating 75% of the bikes that might work for you.2 points

you should get a 2017-2019 intense primer. any of the models before this new 2020 that just came out comes factory at 130/130mm and is an excellent all-rounder that I think you'd absolutely love.2 points

He got himself untangle and then ran straight into my leg, causing me to set a new world vertical jump record! The initial blow felt like someone threw a large diameter log at my wheel and nearly knocked me off the bike.1 point

My experience is when I have entered any "event" I tend to ride beyond my capabilities and end up bloody or broken. So, to avoid all that pain, "no" would be my answer. The reason I asked is because the cost of camping there has been inquired about in other threads and when I saw camping mentioned here thought it might be a good idea to bring it up so folks could have the info to plan accordingly. My guess is that the website just needs some editing to show a single rate in addition to the discounted 4-person rate. You have addressed the question for this event. When I do get out to Bandera Bike Park it will most likely be a solo and overnight trip. If it were going to cost a C-note for a weekend of camping and riding, there would be a lot of other places I'll probably go to before heading out that way. It looks like a really fun place and it is far enough away for a lot of riders that having clear pricing for camping on the website might be something the owners could address if it might be discouraging any riders from making the trip. Best wishes on your event, I know you have put a lot into both the venue and Victory Racing while getting ready for it. 👍1 point

I did it on a old Ibis Mojo. I removed the stay bridge and canti mounts and installed disc mounts. I ran 650 38's and had a flexy Ti fork. Really fun Frankenbike and for some stupid reason I sold it yrs ago.1 point

Missed it today, my tire burped almost flat and my pump broke while trying to get air in. Had a nice morning hike on 1/4 notch. Trails are perfect for riding, go get some1 point

The Transition Smuggler would be more of what I am looking for. ~$4K, ~140mm, 29". Seems like there are a bunch of bikes in that range. STA is 75.8deg, so a bit steeper than I would like. Rode a Specialized Stumpjumper around the parking lot. That had the seat tube angle that I prefer. It had fallen off the list but is now in contention with the rest of them.1 point
