  1. This is going on trail soon. Found one that was like this one but the language was a bit harsh. So I made an entire new one to suit. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

  2. i think it has too many words. Put the action at the top DO NOT MODIFY THE TRAIL you will find sections that you cannot ride, walk them for now. over time your skills will improve and you will learn to ride them.

  3. Hmmm. I will be putting the finishing touches on the course this week. Moved rocks??? Expect them to be back. And locked into place. Cut trees? Expect them to be back too. And reinforced. Rebar, concrete, and steel cable in the truck already. Oh, don't forget the game cameras. It is fun to see & document the "trail sanitizing". Want to "sanitize the trail" (aka cheater line)? I have a surprise for you. And I will make an early lap on Sunday morning. Want an advantage over your fellow racers??? Develop your skills so you ride better than they do. Anything else is called "cheating". Don't do it.

  4. Howdy guys. First time poster, long time stalker. I really, really, really need the cycling communities help on this one. I'm working with BSS to create some great stories for the Real Ale Ride. We're looking for 3 stories to use as promotional videos for this year's ride. Looking for stories about why cycling is important to you, maybe you're doing the real ale ride after a long absense due to illness, maybe your family of 7 is riding for the first time, maybe you're 90 years old and still riding. You get the idea. The winning stories will get 2 free entries and a jersey. If you have a story, please click on the link and fill out the survey. The contest ends this coming Friday, the 5th. We'll decide the winners Saturday the 6th. My worst fear is that I get 0 stories and this great idea of mine totally tanks. So please share your story, or pass this along to someone you know that may. Thanks folks. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ridestoryFB?fbclid=IwAR2mmSJixv58INSPtrsUKisWP-7VI0Cxkd9b55rBHQSGbmsK-1Dv4-U4AFs

  7. Chasing my 18 yo through the Purgatory Creek trails in San Marcos Saturday. He likes riding and I can still keep up most of the time... Good times

  8. Chain pins have a very small retaining lip on them almost microscopic. When you push one out you shear that lip, that's why they're not reusable. If you push a pin too far into the link when you install it you can partially or totally shear that lip causing it to slide out and break the chain. It's only the newer chains 10s and up that are constructed like this. I guess because of how narrow they are. Next time you push a pin out look at your chain tool you'll see a tiny ring of metal on your tools pin. It's also important which side you slide the new pin in at least on Shimano chains, it has to be installed from the outside of the chain.

  9. Yeah, that was because I was cheap. Bent an x9 pretty early in life but straightened it out. Bought a replacement knowing that one more bend and it was gone for good. Carried around the replacement in anticipation. My fear was that if I put the new one on I would bend that one pretty quick too, so I was leaving the old one on as a sacrificial lamb for the next rock strike. I find that I am pretty cheap and any time I finally replace a part I think "man, I can't believe I rode like that for so long" but then I keep doing it. Idiot.

  10. My position on this is that a new chain is usually less than $20 and I can get many months of use out of it. If it breaks, it can really f'in hurt. I'll recycle tubeless solution from one tire to another but when it comes to chains, I'd sooner put on a new one than smash around on pins.

  11. I remember the first time I drove a '73 Porsche 911 Turbo, the first one with the whale tail... Couldn't keep the rear end from pulling like it wanted to pass the front end... So much power. Very hard to handle. But there was a rawness attraction to it that still causes people to buy them for good money. It's not today's 911 Turbo, I understand that. And the '00 GT isn't today's refined downhill machine.... I understand that too. I just thought the comparison was interesting.

  14. Lifetime warranty from a company that is only 2 years old is not really something to bet the bank on. But if you must have carbon, perhaps worth if to go with we are one, as long as they are around.

  15. I've been re-using pins forever, sometimes on the trail (before powerlinks). This is the first time it got me. I still have a bag of new 9-speed Shimano pins. I should use them on my road bike next time I replace the pins, and save the quick link as a spare.

  16. I've found that if you push a pin out of a side plate, that link is toast. I tried to not fully push out a pin on my SRAM 11 speed chain on my single speed chain and it snapped the first ride out. Power links are the answer and those suckers seem as strong as a normal link.

  19. Make the race a goal and work towards it. It’s 11-12 weeks away. Between now and then your fitness could do a complete 180.

  26. My fastest lap was after a 5 minute rest after I had just finished trying to set my fastest lap. I went out slower and smoother and ended up feeling like I was getting into a rhythm. There really is something to just trying to be smooth and not mashing the pedals. I’m really stoked to see everyone out there pushing themselves. This is a great concept with a great trail. 27. I'm with you on that. Down the roots, up the berm, left around the tree, down and back up the berm right, down and up into PIcnicX. Be careful of that second berm when it's wet it's slippery as f*ck.

  28. Agree with your post. But 100 miles is a way too conservative estimate. Shoot, the SATN is now at least 85 miles all by itself. And I never include any of the BCGB in that mileage total. Not even the BCGB trails on our GOOD side of the creek.

  29. Seth pointed out the strong Austin mtb community and mentioned that RPR and Cat Mtn are not the only trails in town. I think JKW came to town looking for something that would make a good video and he found it. We have easily over 100 miles of trails in and around Austin that make great rides but trying to edit that into a video with a couple days worth of riding that showcases this guys talent would be tough. Seth and the Trail Party guys took a mountain bike celebrity to sanctioned trails on private land and showed him that Austin has incredible riding 15 minutes from downtown. I'm sure they could have found some great features on the green belt that he would have loved but then all HELL would have broken loose. They did it right IMO.

  32. Let me rephrase that, I spent enough money on bike stuff this quarter that my wife would murder me in my sleep if I bought another bike.
