So he put a kicker in the path and got mad when you used it? Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk8 points

A one wheel rider named Freddie came out and helped the ARR work crew this past Sunday. He grabbed a shovel and spent some time helping us maintain the trail. In fact, he was able to ride that one wheel across the face of the berm and pack it in really nice! He said the goal of his group of riders was to have a one wheel rider on every trail crew. That being said, I talked to him about the concerns that the mountain bike community have about ANY trail user group modifying the trail surface to suit their unique approach to enjoying the trail at the expense of the other trail users. It's the same reason we don't create big trail features without B lines that are great fun to ride but the hikers can't negotiate. He got it. They are looking for smoother trails without rocks the are fun to ride. Point 6 is their idea of heaven while something like Deception would be a nightmare. I have no problems with these guys enjoying nature and the trails that we all love so much. The more advocates that we have using these trails in a responsible way gives us all more power to keep them protected and accessible.6 points

As mentioned a few weeks ago in the City Park Trail Conditions thread, the City approved our getting back to our old ways of reversing trail direction every few years. I’ve begun changing directional signage on the upper loop this afternoon, and should have the rest of the trail finished tomorrow. If you’re riding there tomorrow, the direction is still counter-clockwise. But you will encounter some Wrong Way markers and see that the directional signage has been changed in places (tree hangers for example). DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING BACK. The direction will officially become clockwise once the signage in the parking area is changed, which I expect to have completed tomorrow evening. If you’ve never ridden City Park clockwise, it is a whole new experience! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk4 points

Ill bite. This is my beater bike that I built for a total of about 20 bucks and 2 x 6 pack trades. This was my first foray into single speeds and got me addicted. Its now been on loaner to 2 of my friends who were in need of bike. Had most of the parts laying around in my parts bin and the rest I either traded for or found at YBP.2 points

I've been riding CP since 96'. Its changed so many times I can't keep it all straight. But now that I think about it....I seem to recall in the video that Woody did on the EB (09' 2nd Edition??) there was footage of riders going across the parking lot to enter in what is now the 'exiting' direction? Someone pull up that video and it may give you what you ask. Later, -CJB1 point

It did not. I was just as interested in debating park rules with him as I was debating them with every off-leash dog owner on the South side of the creek or 10+ mph bike rider on the concrete highway. I was interested in what his group REALLY wanted out of the trails and understanding if we could all get along. Based on my discussion, I see no reason we can't share trails with the users represented by this particular one wheel rider.1 point

Derp. Fwiw, it looks great in dark mode. ...I'm not a web designer, so I didn't even realize this was an issue.1 point

If only. Everyone in my office thinks pasting to the web from Word should keep all formatting and work perfectly. (┛◉Д◉)┛┻━┻1 point

this site is informative and not full of crap like a lot of others, thank you.1 point

All of this happens because we have people digging and people advocating. It builds a community and then these things spring up because there is evidence that if they build it people will come. Public facing things like ARR, Freeride 512, RPR, RHR, Brushy Creek, etc all signal to potential developers that money can be made here. To quote a great song, “nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd”1 point

If you want to be proactive about it, tell the editor of Gear Patrol how you feel. As someone who writes stuff like this, I know that SEO research says that a beginner mountain bike for $3000 is not what people are Googling.1 point

$1300 will get you a kick ass Scott Scale 730 with an NX drivetrain, transX dropper, rekons front and back and a 130mm fox float 34 fork off of the Marketplace right here on this website! 🤔1 point

Doubtful. You don't go to Sea Otter or CES for electronics to see "budget builds". You go to see the high end of the high end. From the videos I have been watching - almost every bike on display had the electric shift or hydro shift (from BOX brand).1 point

I'd be willing to be a paid member. Albert? Any plans to add paid memberships?1 point

I found Mojo kind of late in the game and didn't create an account that I remember. Looked sketch as frig. Thank whatever gender neutral deity you may or may not (as is your choice) pray to for this place. Worth it even if Albert is harvesting my traffic data and selling it to the Chinese. Which he probably isn't. Maybe. Isn't-nt?1 point

I just paid $15 to purchase an "Ignore Topics" plugin for the forum, which I have installed. You'll now see an "Ignore this topic" button near the top of the page when viewing any topics. If you click this button and confirm, you'll no longer see the topic at the forum level or in search results. You can manage your Ignored Topics here: https://austinmountainbiking.com/index.php?/settings/ignoredtopics/ ..Al1 point

I'm still offended over how many times RA called hot dogs "shitty food". Sure, the Great Value franks from Walmart are not going to give the same flavor and mouthfeel of, say, a Hebrew National, but don't hate on people because they can't afford a premium frank. A well cooked Great Value weiner on a upgraded bun can be pretty enjoyable with the proper condiments. However, to mack turtle's point, there is only so much lipstick you can put on a pig - unless of course that lipstick is chili and cheese, but at that point, is the hotdog or the chili really the star of the dish? But we all know they are best on a grill1 point

Fortunately in this case, this guy doesn't seem to be a career bike thief. Hopefully this experience will serve as a STRONG wakeup call to get his life turned around (or at least make him not want to steal bikes anymore). I'm hoping his sentence is enough to correct him and not further send him towards a criminal lifestyle. I'd hate for his lesson from this be how to better do it next time especially as now he'll be in the company of much more experienced people. Awesome that your friend got his bike back!1 point

yes you can do that, or also what Shane @canyoncycles in dripping springs did for me was used small pieces of large diameter shrink wrap to affix the boost adapter spacers to each side of the front axle. looks nice and works perfectly.1 point

Stay away from bigger brands like Mongoose, GT, Haro, etc. They are run by people who don't ride and will try to sell you a bike that is mostly shit based in a few "nice" parts. Smaller, rider run brands like Sunday and FBM do a very good job at putting together a bike that will work in the real world because that have to experience to work with. I'd go to Empire because those guys all ride and won't steer you wrong, but at they very least talk to someone who rides BMX on a regular basis before you buy. Fwiw I ride a Sunday, but it's an older model, and it's been a great bike.1 point
