I never thought of using shoe size to determine frame size, but where front-center and size 14 shoes collide (literally), it sounds like it's more important than reach, in your case... personally I'd consider selling the frame in favor of one with a longer front/center; anything else is just a patch.3 points

I just like jumping in on the beginning of a new forum. These times are always fun. It's like moving into a new house and everyone checking things out and claiming their areas. Sent from my VS996 using Tapatalk2 points

Not legally. But you know you don't have to ride on 1826 right? There is single track that runs along 1826 that keeps you away from traffic. Single track that runs from Slaughter Lane all the way to the intersection with 45.2 points

It's a little extreme, but you could always try adjusting your foot size. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foot_binding2 points

Has anyone investigated the feasibility of constructing some tasty singletrack along the Brushy Creek Regional Trail? I've started looking into it officially since there is a severe shortage of singletrack up there. The main trail is nice, but it does not offer much in the way of challenge and/or riding experience. I was wondering if anyone had officially looked into having legal singletrack built and what his/her experience has been? (Was the proposal met with complete opposition, open-mindedness, reservation)?? I personally, along with some riders I have talked to along the trail, would LOVE to see some nice singletrack up that way....the land is PERFECT for building sustainable, flowy singletrack from what I can see.2 points

Even one lap of LGT in the summer can be taxing because of the heat but it's doable as is 2 laps. Either your fitness is there or it isn't, but one thing you can control immediately is your hydration and nutrition for your ride. TAKE MORE WATER THAN YOU THINK YOU NEED! I rode a conservative 3:30:00 lap last week to get a feel for that pace and went through almost 90 oz before Tejas where I refilled. I would recommend taking a 100 oz camelbak with an additional 20-24 oz frozen water bottle in it as a bail-out. Still plan on refilling at Tejas at least to the point you have 50-60 oz total in case something goes amiss before you get back to Russell. It's better to finish with some extra water than ride the last several miles dehydrating yourself - your body will recover much faster after the ride. Don't forget food: you need to be taking in 300 calories an hour or there-abouts. Also - electrolytes. I use Hammer Nutrition Endurolyte Extremes, but whatever works for you, make sure you bring enough for four hours. In the summer heat, when there is no cloud cover, there are several spots along the Dragon where it feels like you are riding through a hair-dryer. Enjoy! Median temps historically for mid November are pretty mild so the event itself will likely just require dealing with the mileage/time and possessing mental/physical/emotional fortitude to complete without the added burden of too hot or too cold.1 point

Here are the details of the pre-ride. I've been meaning to bring some of this over here, but I've just been too busy and lazy. http://www.bikemojo.com/speak/14-austin-voodoo/177227-monday-sept-3rd-lgt-unofficial-dragonslayer-pre-ride-call.html To directly answer your question, no we will not try to stay together. However, last year we had about 12 people and a good few ended up riding together. My group settle into a group of 4 riders (for 2 laps). I don't really know what to say about the heat. My initial reaction is to tell everyone that this is Texas, its been 90-100 for months so HTFU. But then again, I don't want to brow-beat anyone into doing something that is overly dangerous for themselves. So in the end, I'll say this....if you're planning to come and do 2 laps at the pre-ride, then I trust that you are not a rookie rider. This should mean that you should know yourself, your limitations and how to prepare. Eat, dress, ride accordingly. I myself, do fine in the heat, especially if I keep moving. You can always just do one lap, and that could very well be completed before noon. -CJB1 point

Are you in a position to actually make any legal claims? I think the best that could be done is to get his site(s) taken down by reporting them to his host, but as you said, another will go up somewhere else. I don't mind inconveniencing scumbags like this, though1 point

What is it with you and banging your head? Riding style? You aren't abnormally tall or doing anything obviously different from anybody else. You aren't a crappy rider either.1 point

I think if I saw off the big toe, I can fold that part of the shoe in and make it work, one less nail to clip1 point

It's not 105 yet!! I will need to find more water, though. Probably when I go by Dick Nichols. Just finished Slaughter Creek loop. Now to go further south on 1826!!1 point

I love how an entire online community can just up and move in a matter of days. It’s like some post apocalyptic commune discovered the water was tainted and moved to the next valley. Well done former Mojos. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

@Albert. Trail Party here. We are doing a dig/ride almost every Sat and Sun leading up to the race. 4 hrs of digging gets you shuttles. Check our FB for announcements....#nodignoride Our race is Sep 29 and will be the soft open for the park. Plan is to close the venue after the race so they can finish work on the property. We don't have an ETA from the owners on an opening date. A lot of it will depend on how much time it takes to install the lift.1 point
