I had to dig up a picture of one so I can try pattern recognition to find it!

Yes. They are!  The adult sits on them to incubate them and is incredibly well camouflaged.  Here are two admittedly poor photos of the mother(?) on the “nest”.  I initially found the nest while using the chainsaw to clear a Red Oak that had blocked the trail.  When I came back a few days later I was reluctant to get very close since I had scared her off the nest earlier.  

Are those eggs just on the ground? Can't believe nothing has eaten them.

Just jacking with you about the gloves, I am sure we have all been there. I had a special pair for travelling and exploring where I knew I would be checking my phone and/or Garmin a lot. Some of the newer gloves work very well though on touchscreens so I finally retired mine. After 2 different trucks/shells I finally figured out a hack to lock it from the inside. If you have guides along the locking rod, clamp some small vice grips right next to a guide and it will hold the handle closed. I have been riding quite a bit but you won't see me on any of your 120+ mi mtb rides!!! Chateau!
